Drath or Handoi.i-h Uoaciir.—A dispatch from Saint ruul, MlnurioU, received hereon Monday evening brought the sad neweol the death that morning of llandolph Stephen Uokcbe, eldest eon of Judge A. L. Riauhe. The deceased wae born, we believe, In Rockville, lu 1S43, and at the time of hi* death was twenty-four year* of age. Mo removed to tbl* city with his parents In 1859, and for several years attended the North Western Christian University and Hays’* Academy, always winning the respect and friendship of hie teachers and associate* by hi* uniform kindness and courtesy, and for bt* devotion to hi* studios. In 18U9 be entered the junior class In th* college of New Jersey, at Trlooeton, and remained there two years, graduating In 1805, taking the second honor In a class of between sixty and seventy members—a very rare thing for one entering so late In the course to do. After graduating he returned home, and entering his father’s otlloe commenced the study of the law reading In the ettee for eeveral months, and In the winter attending Judge D. McDonald’s law class. In the summer of liUO he beg m to practice the profession to some extent, at the * (me time continuing bis studies- But In October, we think, he had e -evsre attack of hemorrhage of the lungs, and from that time ho was never well, lit* health et first filled rapidly, and through tbo winter end early tn the spring, it was painfully evident to his filends; but with returning warm weather hi!i health Improved so much eo that It was thought advisable to remove him to Mlnnesota, whore it was hoped the climate would benefit him. But such wae not the ease. The change of climate seems to have hastened his death. It wa* our privilege to bo acquainted with young Roache lor a number of yeara, and during the greater portion of the time to bo intimately associated with hip. He wae e man of no ordinary abilities. Although not brilliant be possessed one of those steady, well balanced minds which, added to industry and perseverance, enabled him to outrank the majority of his compeers, whether In college, the literary society, or the study of law. ills success at Princeton was almost unexampled, entering, a* he did, when the coll-ge course was half completed, to outstrip the members of such n large class and to obtain the second honor, is of itself evidence of distinguished ability. HI* knowledge of bis chosen profession was extensive and varied, considering the time he had devoted to study, and It was the universal opinion of all hts a< qualntanoes that at no distant day he would have taken a high rank In the profession. Ho was one of the most courteous *n<^ obliging > oung men we have ever known, ^o natural klndni s* of b< a t bo added the grsces if ( brUtaln religion. Uniting with the First £rc&bi teriiin Church tn bis seventeenth year] he wa* ever a devoted and consistent follower Of hts faith, and like a city set upon a hill, hts light shone abroad. Always kind In bis demeanor toward others he was universally es termed, and his early death has oast a shadow over all his friends and acquaintances. It ie not our purpose to write an extended notice of our departed friend. He had more virtues and fewer faults than any young man wfi have ever known, and had he lived, would have attained to eminence In bis profession and in his life. Zeal and energy In whatever he undertook, were marked characteristics of our friend. Ho acted upon the maxims that Whatever w. worth do!nj at all, was worth doing Weil. Memo in nls t mvictions, be was earnest In securing their succese. This trait of character was manifested In all his associations and In the various spheres of action in which he was interested or toolf a pgrt %> ijuiet and unobtrusive was hw that only his most intimate friends knew his worth. If he had lived he would hsve been a valuable inrmber of society, and in hts death the community suffers s loss, for there are but few oi bis age who promised so well. Wa little ^bought that it should ever be our province to attempt to pay a feeble tribute to hie memory, but our sorrow unfits us for the task. Ills life It his best epitaph. Good Friend! True Hero, hsll and farewell! Sad, sad tndeed to be called away thus early, when )u»t fitted for and entering upon a life of useful-

titfs.

fit* lea* nlag, his rmm and bia vlrtuwi were sueh that the highest praise we can give him, jean scarcely rsach the bight uf hts 1 fc* 1 4«plj sensible of th* great lorn whMh our profsmton haa toaUloed la tbs untimely dsath of this admirable nd excellent yotutc

They hove, however, this bleaeed consolation that their eon wae an honor to their name} that be survives tn a “ fairer land than our*;” and that thev may meet him again tn that M better country, M where •* there shell be no more death, neither oortnw nor crying.” And white w* sympetbt** with the parents, wo rejoice that this bl**«cd hope can mitigate and palliate even th Hr unutterable sorrow. On motion, th# molutions were unani-

mously adopted.

Hon. Joseph E. McDonald then made a few romnrks, returning thanks on the part of the

family.

0. M. Wilson, FNq’ilre tn a short but beautiful speech, paid a feeling tribute to tbe memory of tbo deceased, after which tbe meeting adjourned. The eervleee at tbe bouse, In tbe afternoon, were conducted by Rev. J. Howard Nixon, paetor of tbe deceased, and were attended by elerge concourse of the friends of to* family and of th* decea-ed. Th* remains were temporarily deposited In tbe vault at Crown Hill.
