It hae beta three yean since We saw thle towa, aad in that time it hae grown out of all reeemblanee to lie former self, having widely extended its borders, and more than doubled its popnlation. It ia one of the most thriving — well ae one ef tho handsomest towni la the fitate. It contains a population of between four and fivxM’-"'**^ and la growing at a ratrt* within the past two ve*-~ "* nnderetend that at leant «... iidndredhouNihave been built within ita limits, and to-day it la almost impoaalUe to rent a home, while rente are almost ae high as they are here. There are a great many larg ■uni elegant dwellings In Anderion, and the place bears about it a look of move than ordinary thrift. The town la beautifully situated, and wo do not know of a more attraottve little city, Tho finest water power in the State may be hud in Anderson, and a company ia talked of to build a hydraulic canal,to make it available. Ills estimated that tha work can be com pick'd for $75,000, and when done It will bo of incalculable benefit in developing tbe resources of the city. Anderson boast* of two fin* school bouse* and several handsome churches, a foundry, a brewery, and a manufactory of patent medicines. Notwithstanding ita great adaptability to manufacturing purposes, It has not so much as a woolen factory. There la plenty of good building stone within a mile of the town, and there Is an abundance of gravel. The afreets are all paved or graveled, and alter tbe hardest rain will bo clear of mud In a short time. While in Anderion w* called upon Meiers. Scblater and Cook, of tbe flaindtaltr, whom we found at work, preaching sound democracy to the people of Madteon. We a)*o met that genial gentleman, Colonel Thomas 5. Robinson, and spent an agraoable half hour with tha oounty offioera. The raging White river roll* its turbid current along theeaet and northern boundaries of Anderion. This noble itream ia aaid to abound in tho finest oat flab, with occasional “alga” of baaa, and aportamen from far off town* congregate there aad thereabeuta, for the purpose of cultivating tbe Waltontaa art. We heard of Captain Dave Braden Up there a lew daya alnce. The Captain didn't catch much fish, but he ate a “powerful” chance o’ cherry pie. How are you, pie. TH* OAMK AT LAPONTI, INDIANA. Dear Bptrlt: About on* month ago tha Dowagtao Base Ball Club, challenged the Laports Club, ofaempioneof Indiana, The latter named the 36th Instant, nad Laporte as th* pie— for playing the match. Accordingly the Dowagtao Club Yiatted Laporte yeeterday, arriving about twelve o’clock, after a ride of •Ixty.flve miles by rail and carriages. They looked up a hotel, got some dinner, and secured tbs mtvloss of a small boy, who conducted them to the grounds of the ohamptone. One o’clock waa tbe time mentioned for commencing play, and was so published ia the Lsporte papers. The Dowaglace were on the ground promptly at the time, and waited until nearly ihr— o’clock before they were favored with the flret view of their renowned competi-

ine Laporte* had, for this ep—lal o—aelon, built a tight board ten—a ehort dtatan—in tbe rear of the home ba—, for the purpo— of stopping the ball* of their “lightning pitcher.” To this tho Dowagtao boys objected, but were unable to get It removed. It was apper—t that the “ ohamptone” felt great eseufanee ef an ousy victory. Some quite lively betting was done; sporting men ef Leport* seemed to think they had a sure tblag, but tbolr —nfldenoo wae a littlo shaken when they found that tho Dowagla— bad friends there who were ready to taka any and all beta that were offered, The Dowaglacs won tbe tosa, end took tbe field.
