Radical CAi’cns^-The radical members of the city council held a caucus Friday night to nominate subordinate city officials. M o understand our Arcadean friend, Boaz, waa rewarded for Urn distinguished honesty and fidelity with which he discharged hla dutyas Inspector of the election la the Filth ward, by the nomination for chief of police. The h*«t of our genial German friend Charley R effimann, Jwwd that dre^l guUlottae, «d rolled In the gory sawdust. Mr. Buchanan succeeds him as chief fire engineer. Mr. Staples getshls walking papers as dty civil engineer, and H/succeeded by Mr. Patterson. The other officials are retained. We can not find word* to express our gratifleatlon at the nomination for chief of police. It is rfue that Tom. Wilson i» the best chief we ever had, and has brought the force to a higher state of discipline and efficiency than It ever reached under any previous administration ; but there is something so attrattlve in the Idea of having that unique old Roman,Willlam Boaz, at the head of the police department that we can y>t help giving vent to the dellrous )oy which oppresses us. We sacrifice our anxiety for the welfare of the city on the altar of pergonal friendship, and rend the elastic atmosphere with a long and loud huzza for Boaz. Well done thou good and faithful shepherd. Blood will tell. ^ ou’ve got it at last, William, and the farm in the country Is desolute, forever. The pitiful bleating of bereaved lambs, blend with the glad hozannas of a grateful populace Intoxicated with bliss. Sound the hew-gag, and beat the fuzzy-guzzy. Long live Arcadia! Boaz, you fcay count on us—bet your bottom dollar, and the last sheep in the fold that we'll stick by you. Remember, Boaz, that you are not dealing With sheep when you undertake the management of our frisky police. Be firm, be wise, be honest, be vigilant, be vll» tuous and you will be happy. Gentle Boaz,

adieu.

Later.—The faithful are In sore tribulation over the Friday night’s caucus. They are s8 intensely Interested in saving the country by keeping the pesky copperheads from getting the upper band, that they neglected atbelr souls, ami all day yesterday sober. Godfearing, loyal men staid away from church, and sub-caucused the caucus on the street corners, and in secluded offices. There is a terrible fermentation over the decapitation of Richmann, and fears are entertained that It will ruin the party, and consequently the country. We understand that another caucus will Be held this afternoon, to reconsider the action of the first. Supreme Court—November Term,1*66.— The following decisions were rendered May 11, IM87, Hon. Huugi.ary.—A few nights since a burglary waa roinmitted on the store of James Sailors, in Katout’s new building, corner of Washington street and the canal. On Ssturdsy officer Duvall arrested two negroes, and recovered most of the stolen property. Robbing a Boy.- On Saturday officers Bennett and Steven* arrested a man named Joseph Ince on suxpiiion of robbing a email boy named Knndle. Ill* said that the boy had ten dollars which he was taking to hi* mother, when Ince coaxed him off to some secluded place, on pretence of getting him to do a job of work, and then ‘‘went through” him. pva* After on unparalleled season of cold, ruin and frost, wo now have reasonable grounds for indulging In the hope that the winter is over. After struggling against obstacles heretofore unheard of, some of the forest trees hsvc succeeded In leaving, and for two days past “garden truek ” has been looking up. It is believed that peaches in this neighborhood still live, though the bad effect o( the cold weather will cause much of the fruit to drop off. tar Fred. Riley, a sporting man who has l>een for some months partially deranged, was on Saturday taken to the Asylum. For several days he has been a candidate for Mayor, and was inveigled Into going peacefully to the Asylum under pretense of attending a political meeting. He saw the joke when the attendants searched him, but submitted gracefully, saying that be would own the establishment In less than a week. ——fr » t/mi — IW" There wa« a report In circulation at a late hour last night that Mr. Isaac Davis, the well known hatter, who lives upon the extension of IlllnoU street, just outside of tbe corporation line, had been shot by a burglar who attempted to rob his house. It was reported that Mr. Davis was shot In the breast, but we could not learn the extent of tbe Injury. Burglary and robbery are spreading over tbe .’’tate like an epidemic, even to murder for smsll sums ofmoney. Our city has been comparatively free from desperadoes for some time, but this assault upon Mr Davis last night Is evidence they are again among us, and should act as a premonition to all to be pr^parcil for similar visits. £ if*The spirit of lawlessness is abroad in the land, i >n Saturday a couple of typos, having worked hard all week on minion solid, went out for a little recreation with a hook and line, taking with them six bottles of ale and an onion for lunch. While tbe two deectples of Faust were out on a drift trying to coax the coy red-eyes from their native clement, they saw a fellow “going through” their basket. They went for him, but the maaauder drew s revolver and kept them at hay while he drank as much of the ale as he could and ste the onion. He then wagged his fingers at the luckless fishermen, from the point of his hold Roman nose, and d.liherately walked

away.

Orsp News. —A correspondent of tbe Cincinnati Oasette writing from Logansport, says wheat never looked better In tbe counties of White, Casa, Carroll, Miami, Wabash and Howard than It does now. Many fields are giving extraordinary promise. Tbe chief regret la that a greater breadth of soil was not sown. In the prairie counties of Jasper, Pulaski, Newton, Benton ami Lake, the cold weather has retarded the growth of wheat more than In the timber, but there is time enough for It to come out and

township? Wayne county, says:

“ I have been on nearly every farm in the township since tbe first day of January last, and have conversed with tbe farmers In regard to their wheat, and they say that they never had a finer prospect for a crop than than the present indicates, but there was not as much sown last fall as some other rears, on account of the wet weather. The prospect for fruit of all kinds never was better if the cold weather does not injure It. Cluffry, apple, peach and pear trees never were fuller of blossoms than at the present time; so that we are looking forward for a t>ountil'ul«r»p of wheat and fruit this season. Wc are all very busy planting

corn at this time.”

Delaware County.—Tbe wheat crop still looks promising, with the exception of some late sown fields on wet lands, which has sufYbred considerably by the late and wet spring, and can at tuest yield but a slight return. Undcnlrainimf is not practiced as much as it should tie.
