Mr. J. F. Hiller, then,

own acknowlcdgmentis the miller who furnished the (1 mr to the Indiana Hospital for the Insane. Read the card of Mr. Miller #ver carefully’ and no denial will be found In regard to the quality of the flour, be only claims that the treiyhl was correct. We said that the stuff a miller furnished for flour was made “out of two thirds middlings and shorts and one third of corn, ground and bolted together,’’ and Mr. Miller does not controvert the Impeachment. He does not serin to care a “ cuss ’’ about the quality ot the flour, bift hit coillclenee appears to be a little tender about the weight. He seems to be willing to acknowledge, by Implication, &M that was said about the character of the flour, but revolts at the Idea of being caught swindling in the weight of such kind of villainous stuff, furnished to on# of tho benevolent Institutions of the State. But Mr. J. F. Mtf.LER Is entirely mistaken in regard to our authority in the matter. He says: “The supposed author of the above story was dismissed from my employ for embezzlement, and Is now In prison awaiting his trial.’’ Not so, Mr. Miller. You made a wrong guoi* that time, You must try It again. W# have not yet said that J. F. Miller, or any other Miller, was the miller who. furnished the stuff called flour “ during the incumbency of the present officers," but we would advise If. MiLle!;, and the officers of the institution, when getting yi another exculpatory or explanatory card, not to let the weightier matters or charges go unnoticed—not to prevaricate over the quantity of flour, the less furnished the better; but come right down te the main point—the quality ol the stuff palmed

off for merchantable wheat flour. Negro Suffrage and Equality•

During the political canvass In this 8tate, as well as In other States, last summer and fall, the Republican papers and orators denied that negro suffrage was a question at Issue. Thousands of voters were retained In the Republican ranks by this deception. It Was by this pious fraud that the Hepuhlleans secured success, at least so far as this State Is concerned. But It can not be any longer denied that the Republican party Is committed to negro suffrage and negro equality. Congress hal made the negroes of the District of Columbia equal before the law to the white citizen. The right to vote and the right to hold office have have been conf. rred upon them by a Republican Congress, over the almost unanimous protest of the white citizens of Washington. There Is but little doubt that the city government of tho capital of tho nation will soon pass Into tho hands oflta negro population and the white population stiljeeted to the rule of the black, for the latter will soon outnumber tho former, If they do not now. But this negro lov log and worshipping Congress do not propose to stop there. Says the Washington cor-

With the utmost secieay Mr. Nelson at once set about making preparations for the return of Page to the scene of his crime. Knowing full well tha* to attempt to convey the murderer through tbe struts of Valparaiso In tbe day time would lead to bis discovery and death, Mr. Nelson wisely concluded to take him back on the night train, and lodge him in jail before tbe Inhabitants could become aware that ho had* been apprebMded.
