Radical Majority 819 Sad Accident.—Dr. Yeakel, one of the oldest and most successful physicians, met with a serious, though we are pleased to say not fatal aocidcrtt yesterday morning. He was on the roof of his building, known as the Baker House, which is receiving a new roof, and making a misstep fell over the side, struck on a one story building below, and from thence to tbo ground. He received some ugly bruises upon bis limbs and body, and a serious cut on the bead. Meanwhile an Invitation from Kit himself, a short bnt very compactly bollt son of Erin, with a face perpetually on tbe grin with good humor, and who held between hla teeth a stubby pipe, at which be was vigorously puffing, was accepted to visit the basement and inspect bis stock of dogs. After proceeding through dark and tortuous passages, against tbe walls of which one was perpetually barking bis elbows, or knocking bis head against the ceiling, tbe cellar waa reached by the descent of a short and rickety staircase. The place was damp and unwholesome, though tbe guide said It was a 11 foine place for a dorg,” and a dim gaslight afforded a feeble illumiM. tion. Peering about in a stooping posture— for one could not stand upright—there were to be seen on every side, ranged around agatnat the walls, little stalls, each of them containing a lively and wicked looking dog. These were of all age* and colors, but all of them were small and wiry and bandy legged, and each wagged a slender, tapering tail witn incessant motion. They tugged strongly attbclr chains, each struggling to loose himself. In all there Were not lees than forty dogs, and many of them had their beads covered with scars and bore the evidences of more than one bloody

of sensation and motion are sent to all parts of the body. The concussion hi* shaken the nervous force out of him, just as, to use an ingenious illustration of Mr. Ericbsen, a magnet struck with the heavy blow of a hammer
loses its magnetic power.
The obviously material changes In the spinal marrow itself are, imflanimation, with enlargement of the blood vessels, effusion of blood, sometimes softening, and at other times hardening, and increased size of Its substance. Pain is felt at one or more points of the spine, and Is greatly Increased on pressure and by movements of any kind, so as to occasion extreme rigidity of thesplnoor backbone. Death may bo postponed for week4, months, or even years. There may, In such cases, be remission or abatement, but no real intermission or suspension of the symptoms. The chances of complete recovery are very small, and the treatment of course becomes difficult. We may sum up In a few words the rule* on this point laid down by Mr. Ericbsen. They are absolute rest of tbe body, and of course to tbe exclusion of travel, so often injudiciously recommended; absolute rest of the mind, and at a later stage counter Irritants, locally applied or tbe use of powerful drugs, which we_ do

Ascending to the saloon again, the bar room was full of men Who had congregated there, as tbe hour for opening the entertainment drew nigh. They were a rough looking lot of men. Some of them had faces lowering and strongly set about the jaws, so that they bore no weak or fanciful resemblance to the brutes who were yelping and rattling their chains in impatience below. Some were in their shirt sleeves, others sported shirts of a loud red colory all of them talked slang and drank incessantly. Many stood up at tbe bar, behind which tbe attentive Kit now stationed himself: some scanned tbe portraits on tbe walls, and others still gathered in l.ttie knots and talked loudly and rapidly among themselves, Soon a head was thrust through a bole In tbe wall opening from an adjoining room, and a voice shouted ** Ticket* for tbe exhibition !” A rush was Instantly made In that direction, and tbe crowd rapidly filed .through a rear passage. This led, by numerous branches, ascents and descents, and winding Inbyrlntbian into a room about twenty feet square.
