Tho long agony ia over, and the pnbl.c pulse beats less fiercely. Whether beaten or vlctorlous, every one will feel a sensation of relief. The nerves, unduly strung by the excitement of the hottest political canvass ever known In the State, will now relax, and we trust that much of tho bitterness engendered by mutual re* crimination will pass from tho bcarta of men, with tho resumption of a normal condition, and the relaxation of overstrung nerves. The election lu this city, notwithstanding the Intense excitement, has been peaceable almost without precedent. No drunken men were seen, and people avoiden giving cause of offense. Tbo business of v oting and challenging was quietly attended to, and as a consequence there was no disturbance. If desperate ridt* cals ever entertained tho thought of driving Democrats from the polls by violence and Intimidation, they abandoned it ns soon as they realized the strength of the Domocraey, and their determination to maintain their rights at
all hazards.
The meagre returns that have come to hand are hardly enough to justify an estimate, liut If the proportion of gijjns glr^ujjr .repopejl ^ maintained throughout the state. It Is pretty

Ae stated by Mr. Munson, tbe committee appointed by the State Board of Agriculture to examine and award pMnatomi on lightning rods at the State fair, consisted of S. II. Thompson, Profetsor of MtAhemetlcs and Natural Philosophy - In Hanoter Colic go; K T. Cos, Geologist, and Colonel McCray, of Bloomington; but Colonel McCray was not present, so that the actiny committee consisted of the other two gentlemen. This committee, in awarding the premium to Mr, Munson, Ignored science entirely, as Mr. Cox virtually acknowledged to me afterwards. Professor Thompson said that as be had not given special attention to the subject of electricity for some time past, he left the matter with Mr. Cox, who, ho considered, better posted than himself. In order to show to what extent Mr. Cox Ignores science, it will be necessary to give the construction of my lightning conductor and the advantages claimed over other lightning
rods,

Impeaching the PreeKewt.
The Cincinnati C'ommerofoOiOounisiwblob, though following the lead of the radical Jaeo. bins, still preserves a portion of Its senses, is sharply after General Dl'TLXR, the Beast, on account of his Mozart Hall speech, in which he counseled the Impeachment of the Presk dent. From a two column article In Monday^
edition, we dip tbo fbHowlag:
There are few peraons In this country oo wanting In intelligence as to be unaware that the Impeachment of the President Wodld at any time bo a vary serious bintneee, and that in these disturbed times it would he a hazardous experiment. It Would bar, therefore, most imprudent to undertake it unless there Was actually a clear case of high crime and misdemeanor, as contemplated by the ConsMtntion. We should remember that the Presidents unfaithfulness to his party is a different thing from treason to the country, as legally defined. poinU alternating along Its- sides from I'-.ur to six inches apart throughout Its entire length. The terminus of this conductor above the building Is a "multiple pointed vj>per terminal lection" consisting of five branches, and forty-seven trt forty-filne points—making In all from Kk> to 900 points on a conductor of ordinary length. I Also dispense with insulators and use zinc holders Instead. The advantages claimed are: First. My many points give a receiving and dispersive power equal to thirty of Munson’s—thereto affording thirty times the pro-
tection.
Second. My conductor has but one joint, which Is secursly made by copper rivets, whereas Munson’s has many joints which are loossly put together, consequently portions of tifk rffd are liable to become InsOlzied or disconnected from om’d or rust forming on the surface of the metal within tho joint, which Is a nou conductor-or they may become entirely
detached.
Third. My rod has more conducting surface than Munson’*, his being tubular he looses the inner surface, as a tube does not conduct on Its Inner surface. Fourth. My zinc holder* nsrd in attacking the conductor, establish a galvanic current with the copper, which preserves the copper from oxydation or corrosion. Mr. Cog acknowledges tho following well established scientific principles: First. Tho electricity generated by an electric machine Is Identical with atmospheric
electricity.
Second. A pointed conductor will diminish the force of a stroke from tho prime receiver of an electric machine, and as wo increase the number of points wo proportionably diminish the force of the stroke, until a sutll dent number will take off the whole charge insensibly,
and prevent the stroke.
Third. When a cloud U charged with electrisky, all objects on tha xurfoca of the earth in tbo vicinity, become oppositely charged l.y Induction, and the lightning rod throughout Its ontlrs length ta«leo(rieaIly excited. Fourth. A given amount of electricity will
establish the equilibrium.
Fifth. A point on a lightning rod will gather the electricity from the atmosphere and transmit a current to tlm building and earth, While the elotul is coming up, a* is demonstrated by making a section in tho rod near the fnrtle, and causing tha sparks to leap across
