MOTEL*
Swai»’s Vmbtabu Ban Balk
Already our people and the whole nation know of Indiana’s disgrace by the acta of the radical mob at Indianapolis on Monday night last. A few day* have elapsed, time enough for passion to eool and reason to resume Us sway, and We were in hopes of sCqjAJt some signs of condemnation of these lawless and outrageous acts by the radical papers, but no word of disapproval do they utter. They glory in their own shame; like the brute, tfcetr enjoyment Is to wallow in their own filth. It ts more In sorrow and mortification than in anger that we allude to the late riotious procaedings In the State capital. Had any Indianlan been there as we were and seen the premeditated sets of ruffianism snd Jacobis outrage and insult to the President of the United State* and bis distinguished retinue, they would have bowed down in bitter blushing shame at our noble States’ degradation. To have stood there and seen the President attempt in vain to speak; to see Indlanlans pleading for Indiana’s honor te n paid mob of hired villains and would be assaesins, led on by such men as William R. Holloway, private Secretary and brother in law of Governor Morton, Andy Wallace. A. H. Conner, postmaster, Sam and Jim Douglas, of the Indianapolis Journal (rioters’ organ) and other leaders of the radical party of Indianapolis, was almost enough to make one feel like deny-
inghls State,
William with upll
sin upon Ms face, and Ms renerabla white balr flitting in the wind, appealing In yaln to the manhood of such vile wretebee. Well might Admiral Parrsgut art what manner of people there were in Indianapolis, and General Grant, disgusted with such act*, step upon the balcony and soy In Ms blunt, hard manner: "Gentlemen, lam ashamed of you, go
home and be ashamed of yourselves.’’
Thai this mob was preconcerted by the radical leaders, and its execution deliberately planned, there can be no doubt. We furthermore believe that It is but the incipient outbreak of a deliberate Man of Intimidation for the purpose of controlling the coming election. As much as the Democrats will regret the Issue thus fbroiUy presented U> them they will
reluctantly aeeept it. go inf ‘ drive Democrats feom the poll
