These affairs are occurring rather too frequently, and It behoovee Democrats that, while they carefully abstain from any violation of the law, or make aay aggression*, to go prepared hereafter to their meetings to protect themselves, and, if necessary, shoot down these lawless villains a» they would dogs. MEETING IN THE CIRCLE. Speceb by Han. Jim B. Brown.
The meeting in the Circle, last night, was well attended, snd, though the Inclemency of the weather prevented any great number of ladle* from being present, the conservative and Democratic voters were out In full force. Hon. Jason B. Brown, of Jackson county, wa* Introduced, and for mere than an honr and » half engaged the closest attention of the andlenee in a discussion of the questions to be decided by the people at the coming election He handled the radical party, which claim* that the object* for wbieh the Wkr has been carried on have net been been accomplished without irloves, showing that they had abandoned und repudiated what they bad declared as their platform for four years and adopted the doctrine of the rebels who had endeavored to take the Southern States out of the Union. In the convention which framed the Constitution the doctrine of secession wa* fought, but on appeal to arms had t>een taken and the vietorlcs of our armies have settled the question forever. The radical* are endeavoring to resuscitate the corpse but even the attempt will be crushed out at the coming election. He said that the radicals claimed that the rebellious States were dead, but fall to tell oe when they died or where they are buried, and now they propose that they shall first adopt negro suffrage, frame a constitution according to the directions of Stevens and company, and that then they shall be admitted into the Union—that Tbaddeus, who Is the acknowledged High Priest of the party, shall open the grave, burst the coffin and breathe Into them the breath of life, and they shall become again Hvtng things. They claim tbnt they do not favor negro suffrage, but of tlto members from this State, all who voted for It in the District of Columbia are candidates for re-election, and those who voted against it have been cast aside and others who favor that doctrine, nominated in their stead. In speaking *f the constitutional amendment, be mtorred to the clause which said that no State should make or enforce any law abridging the rights therein conferred, the object of which was to annul the lawtln States that already prevented negroes from voting. President Johnson, General# Grunt, Sherman, Custar, Rousseau and many others of our most distinguished assn believed foot Oto States should be restored to their position in the Union, and that instead of embittering these people, with whom we win be compelled to live, effort* should be mode to reanimate the love for the Union which posseesed them before the terrible strife through which we hsd passed, and to the extent of hie abilities he would support them. He wa* glad to see that conservative Republicans and Democrats were burying P*M differences and uniting tor the support of the President, and he believed the result would bo e triumphant success over foe men who have declared that foe Union le.dlaeolved and they will heep U so until they sen fit to
reconstruct It.
Mr. Brown wa* freqently apptauded and at foe end of Ms speech was cheered hewfily. James B. Ryan, wa* called tor end closed the meeting, though tt» people seemed defer.
