The Commercial Bays that ut the morning board tho speculative buoyancy in stocks was sustained, and leading shares made a slight advance on the prices of yesterday. Krie advanced to 74)4, at which price some heavy transactions were made. Bears in etock put out fresh shorts. In anticipation of a decline after the present specula-

The general tone of the market is decidedly firm, and the shorts appear timid. The strength of the street is enlisted in favor of the upward JAuvei^eiij, which has every encouragement from the increasing case in money, and Hie April returns of a majority of the roads. The advance in the rates of freight has increased the long interest, in expectation of improved earnings for May. State stocks are rather firmer. Governments arc less active than yesterday. There are fewer sellers of old 5-20’s and prices show a tendency to recover the late dseliuo. 10-40’s and 7-30’s are % bettey. AVc understand that on the Ifith instant the assignee of Charles Graham & Co. paid a cash dividend of per cent, on all claims against the estate ok the arrest of young Ketehom. The Reporters’ and Traders’ Bank received from him upwards of ijtfll.uoo, so the bank realized over 00 per cent, on the amount of its

claims.

Money continues superabundant. The banks are offering large supplies at 4 per cent, without finding borrowers on call loans. The rate, however, is generally 5 percent. Large amounts are 91111 received from the West. Paper is in active demand, out of prime notes the supply is limited, and rates favor sellers. Choice names are current at 5@6 per cent., with a limited amount on long dates at 6@7 per cent. Foreign exchange, for to-morrow’s steamer, moderately active at firm rates. .New York produce bills scarce at 108)4@

REMARKS.

The market for beef cattle is firmer, under a more active demand and a material falling off in receipts; prices showed an improvement of fr$m l A to 1c. per pound, quoting at IJkglHc. per pound, as to quality. The cattle are mainly in the bands of speculators, who were compelled to sell the remnants of their beeves at some decline from the commencement of

business.

At that time King was confined in jail here on a charge of having stolen a buggy and horse from Mr. Bigler, at Cincinnati, beii committed for sijty days to await a requisi tion from the Governor of Qbio. sterling, at the time of his arrest, which topk place at the Louisville Hotel, was making preparations to commence the practice of Uw in Bowling Green, having purchased »library of legal works, and got them ready to send on there. After being in jail a short time, he turned his brain, ever full of cunning projecU, to the means of escape. He then made up the story of his being the man who attempted to assas-

After this attempt to get out by strategy he began to despair. He did not Uke much food, and never attempted to take any exercise. His convalescence was, therefore, very slow, but as week after week passed, and no requisition came from Cincinnati for him, be began to gain spirit, in the expectation that the sixty days far which he was committed, and which terminated tonlay at twelve P. M., would go by and he be turned out of jail. Under this impression, he sent a note to Mr. Henry Thomas, requesting that he turn him out at twelve P. m. to-night, immediately on the expiration of his term of confinement, End proiniaing If be did so he would present him with a complimentary letter conUining $500. The story that King was implicated in the assassination conspiracy was not anti rely without foundation. That be was in Waahington at the time is now well established, and that be stole a horse and buggy on the night of the assassination and left far Baltimore, where he sold them, is a!«o developed. When he sold the stolen horse and buggy, he at once stole another and started off from Baltimore. The Washington man recovered bis bone, but the buggy, and the Baltimore horse and buggy,
