The Commercial'a money article says: The stock market opened quiet, with fewer buyers. There was a partial decline in prices, especially in Cleveland and Pittsburg and Michigan Southern, both of which closed about 2Kc. tower than at the close of business on Saturday’s board. There appears to be a disposition among bull cliques to afford an opportunity of paitial decline, which they hope may be construed by bears as indicating weakness and encouraging short contracts. There Is a reaction from the late activity in Government stocks, and a further slight decline in prices. There is every reason to believe that the extraordinary activity of last week was purely fictitious, the result, indeed, not of a demand from the outside public, but of purchases made in behalf of the Secretary of the Treasury. * To-morrow the interest on each issue of the r>-20’H will be payable. The coupons of these bonds are selling at % per cent, below gold. Compound notes are again in demand at *4 per cent, above par and the sample interest. The bank statement is unexpectedly favorable to a continued ease in money. The deposits show an Increase of $5,909,99(1 in deposits, and nearly $3,000,000 legal tenders, and an increase of $2,950,020 in loans, which is gratifying,'and indicating in the increase an activity in business. Gold has weakened considerable in prospect of the supply which to-morrow will be thrown upon the market by the sub-treasury. The price opened at$l 29 1 ^, and fell to $1 27%. The rate on loans is per cent, per day. Foreign exchange is quiet on the basis of 108% for sixty days’ on prime bankers. Money Stocks, I'.tc. New York. Apill40. Money—Easy at 4@5 per cent on call loans. Sterling—108(18108%. Gold—Unsettled and lower, opening at $1 27%, declining to $1 20, and closing at $1 26%. Government Stocks—Are without decided change.
