CITY NEWCy Amnaements thla Eraalng. MKTKOPOUTATf THBATYK.—Pnele Tfa'a C«fctn. ipg- Fmegar and Davis were arraigned be* fore the Mayor yesterday on Aai^e of targlary on Mr. Clark’s merchant tailoring establiahment, on North Illinois street, and pleaded E'jUty- m , m Suprkmk Court.—The following dedalon has been returned since our last report: John G. Berkshire ei al. vs. Adolph Binds* koff ttal. Ripley C. C. t3T We are under renewed obligations ta Mr. D. L. Ward, the accommodating agent of the American Express Company, for copies of the St. Louis papers in advance of the mail. Thr Hancock Burglary.—John Fulton, accused of the robbery of the treasurer’s office of Hancock county, was taken from the county jail, on Sunday last, by the sheriff of Hancock county, to greenfield. I. T. U.—A special meeting of the Indiana* polls Typographical Union will be held this, Tuesday evening, at seven o’clock, at their ' hall. As business of importance will be laid before the Union, a full attendance is earnestly desired. Bodknuamrr, President. Taxation.—AVe understand that the taxes for State, county, road, township, sehodl and municipal purposes, for 1865, amount to the enormous sum of about, $14,000,000, at about $70 19 on each assessed poll In the State. The taxes for 1*05 are nearly double the levy of 1801. No wonder the people are restive under such a state of affairs, and demand a revolution in the ndministratioo of the State government. Burial Dkfkrrkd.—We understand that the burial of a young married wetaaft, which was to have taken place yesterday afternoon, was, by the advice of the fiunlty physician, deferred on account of the body being still warm, although the vital spark had apparently lied for about forty hours, While resuscitation is not probable iu the case, considerations of humanity prompted the course that vwas taken. Criminal Court.—In this court yesterday Mr. Springer pleaded guilty to an assault and liattery on Andrew Lynch, and was fined $5 and costs. Mr. Muell ami his wife Mrs. Mucll, formerly Mr*. Nasmann, were found guilty on charges of adultery and fornicatlan, previous to the divarce of Mrs. Muell from Mr. Kssman and tli« marriage of Mr. to Mrs. Muell. They were lined and costs each. Metropolitan Theater.—There was a very respectable audience at the theater last evening, on the occasion of Mrs. More’s bene* tit. She is a very deserving actress, and her merits deserved a crowded house. The porforpianre passed off very pleasantly. As “ Tom Itakewell" in the" Bake’s Progress,” Mr. Riley was excellent. His portraiture of the maniac was terribly truthful. The performance to-night will be “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” On Wednesday night Mr. Ryder will take a benefit. His many friends, no doubt, will be on hand to show their appreciation of his merits. i k.nauioi,—Tbe Board of County Commissioners, learning that Mr. Langsdale’s duties as township trustee were so arduous as to monopolize the whole of his time, Sundays ineluded, leaving nothing for the worship of God, kindly rcliovtd him of the vexation and trouble of distributing wood to the poor, and and dispensing of the soldiers’ relief fund, appointing Mr. J. W. Brown in his stead. Mr. Langsdule can’t see the change, and refuses to give up the book*, obstinately persisting In three hundred and sixty-five days servile every year. We think Mr. Langsdale is wrong iu tliis matter, and docs himself gross injustice physically. Relieved of the additional duties of wood distributer, he might be able to get through with the legitimate business of his olllee in six days of the week, reserving the seventh for the worship of God, and the necessary recuperation consequent upon the exhausted condition of his physical system. If he persists in his extraordinary labors, for It has been demonstrated, time and again, that man or beast can not stand over six days work in a week, and that rest on the seventh Is a necessity, we fear that Mr. Langsdale will be lost to the community, or the community will be lost to Joshua, which certainly will be a public calamity very much to be deplored. Wo sincerely hope, to prevent such a catastrophe, that Mr. Langsdale will be prevailed upon to Intermit some of his extraordinary labors, for we have no disposition to attend a funeral at present, or write a feeling obituary. The Cricket Match.—The grand cricket match as announced, came off yesterday on the grounds of the Indianapolis Cricket Club, northwest of the old fair grounds, and was honored by the attendance of a Urge number of spectators of both sexes. The play was the best, over seen on these grounds, not excepting the match last season with the Cincinnati club, which created such great excitement, and in which Cincinnati showed Its full strength. The bowling of Messrs, Dean and Rivers was very good, as the score, which (sounderncath will tell, and the batting of Messrs. Dean. Stewart, Rivers and Cartwright, was admirable. Cartwright, as a Wicket keeper, was superb, and was only excelled by Arden, whom we have nevoFseen equaled. The fielding of Messrs. Johnston, Stewart, Yates and Thompson, was quite up to the nark, which is saying a good deal, as good fielding Is the first great point in cricket. We fully enjoyed ourselves, and think all the lovera of the noble game who were on the ground did likewise. Subjoined is the score: STEWART'S SIDE—FIRST INNINGS.
