A DEAL FROM THE BOTTOM. s i: We are palnect to record another ^damnable outrage on the elective franchise of the citizens ot this township, perpetrated by the party which arrogates to itself all the loyalty, all the decency, all the religion, and all the honesty. That H«nry Nelson was Dirty chosen Township Trustee in the election held yesterday, notwitbltafttlibg Uiesw >wm a-good deal of Illegal and double voting on the part of the dlsanknilsts, no one Vho took any pains to ascertain the way In which the election was going can for a moment doubt. Every body admitted this at the elofe of the pdlia. Republicans ge*e*ally gave it up, and began apologizing for the result on account of Mr. Langsdale’s unpopularity. Indianapolis went to bed last night, lirmly Selfeving tljat Mr. Nelson had received a decided majority of thr votes east. If all Indianapolis were not familiar with the disgraceful system of frauds here the astonishment would be general, on waking up this morning to learn that Mr. Langsdale is declared the successful candidate by twelve hundrvdand seven majority. Numbers matter nothing, however. It might as well have been 2,407 or 4,307. . Owing to the lateness of the hour, we can not say any thing more of this matter at present, but propose to continue our remarks in the future. The following is tbo vote as an-

nounced:

being drunk. - nn

The Gazette indorses its new local, Mr. Ben. D. House, as a young man of “ excellent moral character.” We do not know that there is any thing remarkable in this fact, as it is

characteristic of the profession.

13" Two young bucks, one of them named Wilson, burglariously entered the grocery store of Famesworth' * Huntley, corner of North and Illinois streets, early yesterday morning, were caught in the act, and sent to jail. 1 • i

Rivers.—To-morrow night Mr. Harry Rivers takes a benefit at the Metropolitan; Mr. Rivers appeared at the Metropolitan a short time since in a very humble line, but by hard study he has rapidly risen until he now occupies a prominent position. We never knew a young actor to rise more rapidly, or one who gave promise of greater improvement. Wctcnirt hei will receive a “bumper’’ as some recognition of what he has done, and eacouragoment to do still better. As a gentleman, he has made hosts of warm personal friends, who, we have no doubt, will

remember him on this occasion.

The Mktboi’OLitah.—We are gratified in being enabled to announce that Mrs. Hodges had a first class benefit last night, netting a handsome sum. This lady has hitherto been .unfortunate in her benefits, the weather

Dr. Thompson made a short siiecch in favor of reconsidering the ordinance. The people of this city had been taxed to the utmost limit during the past year, and the Doctor knew that many poor men in the Said square would have to seH Heir UKfe ltdines to pay for the bowldcring. Mr. Allen preSA#U*U another paper, from other parties, to the same effect. Mr. Loomis said the question of bowldering Virginia avenue had been agitated all last summer. Councilman Boaz, secret policeman, etc. was yesterday one of the election judges, and had with him a pimp by the name of Tom Wilson, a policeman. Mr. Councilman Boaz, secret policeman, etc., grossly insulted a gentleman who asked him a legitimate question at the polls yesterday, and, notcontent with this, sent out his pimp Wilson, with instructions to pick a quarrel with the gentleman and have him arrested. In compliance with Ins instructions, pimp Wilson came out, gathered a crowd of his fellow-jdnips, ami rudely ran against the gentleman three separate times, as well as treading on bis toe*.
