An Irish Piunct in thkCkltic Times.— The tributes were either of natural products or home-made material. To state an idea of the amount furnished, we will give the revenue of one of. the small provincial princes. The King of Uladh, who held thc territory comprising the modern counties of Antrim and Down, was entitled to 500 beeves, 1,150 cow*, 450 oxen. 350 hogs and pigs, 300 fat wethers, and 800 cloaks of various colors. It might be instructive to notice the number of cattle, sheep and pigs at tbc present time in tbe same territory. Down and Antrim, a few years ago, bv the'Parliamentary return, contained 248^ 0t)0 cattle, 103,000 sheep, and 92,000 pigs. The amount of revenue of thc King of Uladh, if the animals were reckoned at the modern valuation, would amount to £15,947 per annum, rejecting fractions and details. He would be an ingenious statistician that, could show that Ireland ha* not Improved since tbc so-called “good old times,” ea rn if we disregard the fief that the cattle, sheep and swine of the Celtic tribes were wild and kept in herds in the forests and on the mtHiutains.—Once a Week. The editor of the Springfield Republican went to market the other day, and on his return, wrote an article on the high prices and the spirit of speculation everywhere rife, and closed up as follows: “Might not our religious teachers find it salutary to turn aside for a time from lamentations over the heatlien. who worship tho best gods they-know, and scatter a little wholesome damnation among the servants <rf ^Mammon, who, in Christian sanit4tufl^o*to-hranfiP'«fltartii*?..; Jf-vi i e had, the ktttttfk of' it, and Wre tltuy authorized; there is no mission we could undertake with
