The Hall was crowded with v isitor who w ere drawn there by the im-portam-e of the occasion and the announcement that Hon. S. If. Buskirk, of Bloomington, would ojx-n the ball by a sp-ech against the resolution. Mr. Buskirk has made many excellent spec h, a the iK-mocracy of Indiana can attest, but he never made a better one than this, in which he put in a plea for the "Consti tution a it I In all its part. Hi siH-rch was carefully prepared, and he read it from the manuscript, the first time that we ever mw Mr. Buskirk r-ad a sj---h, or even use note, for he Is one of the most effective cxtemporanous speaker in the State. The HonoraMe MemlMT from Monroe pre sented most coneluie reasons why the res(lu tion should not prevail. It will l one of the proul-st acts of Mr. Biiskirk's life that he should enj-y the ditinguided eminence of ing the first man in the I idlana Legislature to raise hi voice agaiirt the measure which would expo Indiana to a flood of colore! emigration, ami could not but lower the Mx-ial standing of our population. Mr. Buskirk' sieech occupiel almost the entire afternoon, and was litenel to with great attention. -M Amusement. Metkuii.itan Theatre. "KoMtiale" wa produced for the oconl time on last evening, and afforded as agreable nn entertainment as can well le rowd. d into a five a-t drama, or embraced in the brif hours of one short evening. We know of nothing that we can say of tin attra'tive novelty by way of praise. It is a tragedy anl comedy combined. It i humorou and thrilling; serious and piquant. Like Thackeray's IJoulibaisse, it I "a hotchpotch" of every variety of the Irama. What can Ik more laughable than the bluff drolb ry of " Kobb,'' more piquant than unpresuming " Bose Leigh," or more grand than the noble magnanimity of " Mathew Leigh." We weep with the sorrow of the devoted "Florence May," laugh at the quaintnes of "Tabatha Stork," while quiet, quaint, slf-possess'd, generous and heroic u Elliott Grey" is the"ädmired of all who have a heart to fi-i or a sensibility to appreciate. Villainy is iersonified in "Mile MeKenna' and "Colonel May." The piece alound in strong characteristics, thrilling situations and affecting tableaux, w hile the dialogue i chaste, smooth and racy. Mr. Barrett i Klliot (Jray" to the life a generous, brave and adventure-loving Knglish officer. Impcrturable wlf-posscssion and tenacity of purpose are the prominent traits of theeharaet r. We hhall say nothing further in praise of Mr. Barrett's performam-e, cause it would be a work of supererogation on our part. Argument is only needed in a bad cause, and hence wc desist. The management I entitled to great cretlit for the very credi"able manner in which the piece has lieen put upon the stage, as was remarked last night by the audo-nce. Uosodale" will 1h related bvnight. 3Iahnic Hall Roiiert Heli.eh, the famous Pianist and Conjunor, made his Wow once more to an Indianapolis audience last evening, and to a crowded house, after an absentee of some three years, during which time he has so crfeeted his arts, both mUMcal and diaUdi.jue. a to have raised himself to a position far leyond anything yet achieved by the adepts w ho occasionally visit tn. The success cf Mr. Heller may le attributed to several cause. First, his thorough F.nglish education, which frlvs him a command of the language enabling him to entertain hi audiences with conversation at once uaint. to the point, and as flavored with pun, jokes, bon mots, etc., that it is always worth a visit, if but to hear him talk. Then his original and peculiar style of performance, remarkable ingenuity, rapid sleight-ofdiand, or prestidigitation, consumatc acting and thorough knowledge of the weak oint of comprehension to be found in an audience, enables him ti play so effectively upon the imagination that it requires a tolerably firm reasoning Hwer to d--t rmine wh th r that w hich ha astounded Us ao greatly i a something emanating from the pow ers inf. mal, or simply the result of certain wily and adroit manipulation. Then again. Mr. Heller's ability as a pianist, gives a tone to the entertainment, which no one ln-fore the public can ever htie to arhieve for themselves, in the first rank of the iuMie pianist, most skilful of the ht of conjurors, and alone as a wit. punster and conversationalist, Holmt Heller commands now the admiration of tlu s title world of amusoiui nt Iouts. Iii May in our eity is limited to fiw nights. The programme to-niirht includes several novelti-, the Wool Minstrels anions other things, which are said to le the funidot troujM ,'f Mockheatla in the world. S-ats should be secured early.
