The Public have, seen, in the valediction of Doctor M'Namke, (who lias dUchargevl his duty a an editor with honor to himself ami profit to the establishment) tirat the Indiana Clntinel has fallen into other hands. It lias taken a new stand, in suj.ort of its original intentions. It is not e.rpected that they will do more than to e.rplore thj waters of the Missouri and its tributary streams the first season, as the movements will be gradual, in order to obtain a thorough knowledge of that section ol the conntry, with a history of the inhabitants, soil, minerals, and curiosities. At twilight on Friday last, a child cf Mr. Oliver Dubois, aged about 2 years, fell into a well 45 feet deep, in the yard of the Orange Tree Hotel, kept by Messrs. Dubois & Stewart of this town. The child was seen to tall in, and notwithstanding an intrfpid gentleman of this place immediately descended for its rescue, it was brought up lifeless, and with mauv evident marks of violent contusions recehed in the fall. One motive in noticing this melancholy disaster, i, that i may serve ss a warning to other?, to secure their wells by sufficient curbs, and not leave one side open, as is frequently the case, for the more eav and

couxement lilting te ki'chon bucket from the well, after having fiiled it with water from the well-bucket. From tins miserable neglect many awful calamities hav resulted. EariiEss. China flare, or Porcelain is now manufactured in New York in treat perfection

Ry the Circuit Court of the State of Kentucky, at Rartlstown, was tried, towards the close of the lat month, a suit for Slander, in which Mis Res Marley, alias Mrs. Fi;hley, was plaintiff, and Mr Fishley of Louisille, defendant. After a trial of two days, the jury brought in a verdict for the plaintijf, ami assessed the damages at twenty seti thousand nine hundred dollars. This is a curious case; for the parties had been married, and the husband, the defendant, had in a few days after marriage deserted his wife. However, the verdict, it appears, fills to the ground; the Judge having decided that, the. mar riage being a legal one, a suit for slander could not be maintained by the wife against the husband.
