To the Ed.tor of the Indiana American: Mr DeAR Sih: W,H y0U d0 me RDd ft nnm. ber of my friends the of republishing .u,leBOI1 , stamas entitled, "Wanderer Wouldst Thou Return?" I Lardly consider ii necessary to fy that these ferees appeal strongly to each individual character in the land. We are all conscious of vic-ont. hKii. that to a great extent control as, and that we wouia give much to be emancipated from; and these rlitmno .i , j ,unii8 toe personal cnaracter and the heart so traly, deserve a permanent record in every family. Respectfully your., Robsrt R. Lisd, M. D. He all alone a etranger tame, three thousand miles away, Where Western Mornings heralded to him a lonely day, And when the evening's son aslant clothed hoppj homes with gold, lie all alone a wanderer roved "a sheen without a fold." No one was there to bless him there in the darkotue nieht: No one there to caress him there In the eweet twilight; No mother's kiss was there for him, no father's oice benizn Said,ChiM, retarn and he again, as in thy eraOne voice, alas, there ever was, in tone and aocent h'lebi It rang above the thunder-storm and blackened au toe efcy A hideous form to mock him through all the lonely night j , , A darkening shde to vex him, when all aroucd was orignt. Remember, oh! remember now," that spectre seemed to say And while it spoke it seemed to chase good angeis an away Remember, oh! remember now what was, what might have been: Forlorn ifid blighted, outcast, think what other times have seen. Ves, tUnk of all the gladsome glades, thy mother bv thv side. Thy father, brothers, sisters dear, and when, at eventide, They gathered in the happy home that centuries had given, And all within and all without made Earth re semble Heaven. "When all about was lore and pride, and happy, ocunteous wealth, And all would love ho d bless thee then, yes, thy degraded self. Remember, oh, remember, now, but ever yet deAh! even thou wast happy ones, and all thy fu ture lair. "ouldst thou return, and be again what once thiu urea to be? Wouldst thou return, and see again what oqce thou ued to see? Too lati! too latel" the spectre never ceased to cry; "Aa now thou art, thus thou shalt be, and thus at last shalt die." Angells light the spectre chased, a kindly woman spoke, And hope in all that wretchedness at last again awoke; A glistening eye, a feeling heart, a woman's sympathy, Hushed into rest the voice that mocked at all that agony. Iler heart was pnro as driven snow, as a guardian angui's mild, When bicii from awift destruction it hails an erring child; Iler voice was soft, for she, perhaps, in other days had known And helped the fallen, while the seed of better things was sown. For surely never yet before, ia all that foreign 1 and, Had holy Nun with pious skill, or practiced, prie?tl hand, Poured out a balui as soft as that, or sweeter infljtm e given, To chase despair away from earth, and call back hope from Heaven! Aurora, I.vd., Oct. 2C, 1371. En. Indiana Americas, I write you for the purpose of giving information to those of ycur readers who may chanco to have land in Martin, Dubois, Orange or Crawford Counties. The citiicng are cutting the timber and hauling it from non- resident lands iu latge quantities. I have just returned home fro ji a trip looking after land belonging to a widow lady in Dubois Connty. There were 316 logs taken fretn a 320 acre tract to the bank of the Pa'.aka River waiting for water to ship. I reclaim cd the logs from parties and af terwards compromised with them, allowing them pay for catting and hauling. It is estimated that there are 20,t 0 logs on the Tataka River waiting for a rise in the river to shin. My advice to those e wnieg lands there is to look after them at oncj, for after lhe logs are gino you can't fiad tut an j tin rg about who cut or hauled timber. The railroad from MitchsII to Evansville goes down to Fataka River through Jasper, tho county seat of Dubois Countv. The best route to Jasper is to go Lagootee on the O. A M . R. R., thenee 24 miles south to Jasper. The best place to get conveyance is the Burton House, Lagootee. I forgot to say there is plenty of good coal in the land cropping out in many places, and sandstone and limestone ia abundance, and as good oak and poplar timber as ever grew out of the land. Jasper is a town farty-five or fifty years old containing about eight hundred inhabitants. Al most the oaly mark of energy and enterprise is the foundation of the new Catholic Church, which is ISO ft. long aud 75 ft. wide, walls 7 ft. high. The Catholic priest, whoso name I have forgotten, is the architect. The foundation is being built in the. most substantial manner and of the best of sandstone, some of them 10 to 12 ft. long and 20 inches square, and neatly dressed. The men haul the rock with tea tnams each day two to three miles distant from the church. Great credit is due the priest for his energy. My advice is to look after your timber at once. Railroad by the Iron Bridge at Burlington, and called the Burlington Route. The main line of the Route running to Omaha, connects with the great Paciflo Roads, and forms to-day the leading route to California. The Mid dle Branch, entering Nebraska at Plattstmouth, passes through Lincoln, the State Capital, and will this year be finished to tort Kearney, forming the shortest ronte across the Continent by over 100 miles. Another branch of the B. M., diverging at Red Oak, Tails into a line running down the Missouri through St. Joe to Kansas City, and all Kansas. Passengers by this route to Kansas, see Illinois, Southern Iowa, and Missouri, and, by a slight divergence, can gee Nebraska also. Lovers of fiae viows should remember the Burlingtou Route, for its towns "high-gleaming from afar" its tree-fringed streams its rough bluffs andquarrios its oorn-ooeans etretohing over the prairies further than eye can reach. Land-buyers will be sure to lemember it, for they have friends among the two thousand who have already bought farms from Geo. S. Harris, the Land Commissioner of the B. A M.R.
