A notice was sent to us by eeveral promi nent Democrats, and published in last week's 'paper, calling for a meeting of our citizens, without distinction of party, to nominate a ticket for Corporation Officers. Pursuant to 'the notice, a respectable number of our citizens 'met and presented the following ticket: COUNCILMKN. 1st Wa'd Wilbur F. Hilt 2d Ward Frank A. Walz. 3d Ward Jacob Gerber. 4th Ward William Bunz. 5th Ward Jonathan Cain. CLERK, Ferdinand S. Swift. TREASURER, . Adam Felz. . MARSHAL, In the above, the Council has two Republicaos and three Democrats. No nomination was made for Marshal, and citizens can take their choice of the three names announced in 'our paper for the latter office, Messrs. Chambers and Cooksey being Democrats, and Mr. 'Godwin Republican. It is hoped thaj our Brookville people generaliy will see the importance of turning out on :Monday next, irrespective of party, and voting 'the above ticket composed of the best men of 'both parties. All grades cf Coffee, Sugar, Tea, 4c, can be had at Chambers Cincinnati Store. Railroad Excursion to Cincinnati. It has been announced by posters that on Saturday next, 29ih inst., there will be an excursion to Cincinnati from Ibis place for the heneGt of- Brookville College. Trains will leave here at 7:40 A. M. No passengers received at any other point. Fare for round trip f 1.50; children?!. Buy your tickets at once, as only a limited number of cars can be secured. Tickets for sale at Dr. Keely's and King's drug store. The cheapest place in town for White Fish and Mackrel is the Cincinnati Store of J. C. Chambers. Destructive Frost. The destruction by the frost on Saturday and Sunday nights, in this vicinity, was very gencr- ; -al. Everything that was in bloom was cut off as j with a storm of Ere , aud even the young cherries, ! plums and pears as largo as peas were frozen, so j that when the sunshine thawed them they wilted j as though they had been c-joked. The new grape- ! Batzner Bond Case. Judge Carter on Saturday decided the 'above ease, after a hearing of all the evidence, in favor of the defendants, on the tronnds, as we understand, that Pawner's bond did not contain the amount of pcnaltv, (Jl 00,000,) that the date was blank at the time they signed it, and that their F'srrcatures were appended with tho nderstandinsr that rne hundred names were to be obtained before the blanks aforesaid were filled, whereas only about thirty rnmes were obtained. A bill of exceptions was taken "by the State, and the case will probably again be appealed to the Snpreme Court. White Fish and Mackerel for sa!e by Wiley 3t Case. Good Templars. Just as the Tresbyterians have rai?ed the amount of money to finish paying for their new Church at Mt. Carmel, and have dedicated the hon?e, they find themselves without a pastor. Mr. Atkins has gone to Thorntown to preach. They are making efforts, however, to secure the services of another minister, and wil doubtless succeed ere long. Of course everybody intends joining the Kailroad Exucrsion to Cincinnati next Saturday. Buy your tickets ea,rly." G. T. Election. All the old officers of the Good Templars have reen elected for next term, except the Assistant Secretary, who resigned. Mr. Benj. McCarty was elected to fill his place. Agricultural Meeting. The Election Next Monday. The Corporation Election in Brookville next Monday promises to be a lively affair, as it is understood that the Democrats and Republicans will unite upon tho ticket nominated at
the Citizen' Meeting on last Saturday night, with a determination to elect that ticket, notwithstanding the strenuous efforts that are being made by a few Democratic politicians to continue to draw the party lines and thus keep op the old party strife that has so long disgraced our community. These latter have gotten up a ticket composed entirely of Dem ocrats, and will most probably also get up oogus inixea ucKei in oraer to del eat the noparty movement which our best citizens are trying to inaugurate. Aga-n we urge our people to go to the polls . r j . .j- . . ueii jionaay ana voie lor tue best men irre spective of party vote for Ilitt, Walz, Gerber, Buoe, Cain, Swift and Fete the ticket nominated ba regularly called meeting of our citizens. Wiley & Case continue to supply the public with everything in the shape of Family Groceries. T. T. Smith still continues to take Photo's at one dollar per doeen. That fine stock of Queensware and Glassware at Wiley &, Case's store is being constantly replenished to meet the great demand therefor. Go there when you want anything in that line. T. T.
