Lines Written on the Death ef Rtntben Dart, who vat accidentally killed March 13ffc, 1871. The light of the sweet Spring sunshine Was beaming oe'r valley and steep, Calling to tree and to wild flower To awake from- their Winter's sleep. AH nature earned rejoicing; The frost-king's reign was ee'r; All nature was ready to welcome- ' The coming of Spring onee more. Around one home in the village Was a golden halo cast, And all within seemed joyous, With no thought of the coming blast; Tot the wife and daughter awaited The expected return of one The absent husband and father To his bright and cheerful home. Ah! how little we know of the sorrow . That hover around our homes; For when the sky seems brightest, The lowering storms may come. E'en so, while the loved ones waited And counted the hours that sped, The messenger came to tell them The absent one was dead. A mangled and lifeless body, A torn and bleeding form, A broken and ruined casket The jewel it held was gone Gone from this world of sorrow, Gone from the loved ones here, Gone to the unknown future, Where all shall meet him there. No more would he eome to meet them, No more would his step be heard, No more would he come to cheer them By kindly voice and word. OhI who can picture their anguish! Oh! who their grief can know! Oh! who can tell of the darkness That envelops the home of woe! There's but One who can cheer the mourners In their hour of sternest need
Sut One who can heal the heart wounds And make them cease to bleed. The kind and loving Saviour, Who for us bore the cross; n'll give them strength to bear this Their greatest earthly loss. Fairfield, Ind. H.Filxb, Blooming Grove Items. Ms. Editor, Our town is small, but it is known not quite all over the United States. It has made more improvement in the last two years, in proportion to the worth of its buildings, than Cincinnati. There is some room yet for improvement. Our farmers in this vicinity are turning their rich soil for their future crop f corn. They have been attending more to enriching their farms in the last two years than usual by raising grass and clever and stocking them. May they see the value of so doing, and continue until the land around our city shall be noted for the fertility of its soil. The highest priced land rates from $30 to $80 per acre. Wheat looks well. Peach trees in bloom. Although Brookville has more business than our town, we claim that our town and vicinity gave it many of its business men. John King, dealer in dry goods, Ac.; David Slaughter, dealer in wall r apers, Arc.; Messrs. Masters, p roprietors of the large carriage manufactory; R. II. Swift, Ex-Assessor 4th Cong essional District; Herman Trifhler.proprictor of the Boston boot and shoe store, and Wm. Robert--, dealer in groceries, were all formerly of Blooming Grove and vicinity, and are an honor to any town. As to the citizens of this vicinity, they aresaid to be kind and friendly. People who have traveled over many parts of the United States, and happening to stop here, say it seems almost like home to them; they act as though with acquain tances. I do not mean to all our citizens are nice people, but the major part. We th:nk we can safely say there isnot a drunkard in the Township; and of the many young men, we do not know of one who tastes liquor. The Good Templar L.odgeisyet increasing in num bers, although it is not needed here so much as other places; but let the members be trained up to temperance, and then they may become advocates and teachers of it. Our Sabbath School, I am sorry to say, is not what It Ehould be. Our Sup't labors hard to make it interesting. What is the matter? The elder members of the church nearly all remain at home, reading the newspapers, sleeping, or perhaps thinkii g of business matters, or perhaps singing that, good old tune, "Am I a soldier of the cross?" and getting the second and third verses a little changed: "I mast he carried to the skies On flowery beds of esse; While others fight to win the prize, I'll win it as I plen.se, - There are no foes for me to face; I must not stem the flood. Let sinners travel in disgrace; I'll ease my way to God." Did the members of the church take more in terestin the school of 100 scholars, there might be an interesting scheol; and if there are those of the church who do not know enough about the Bible to teach; let them come to Sabbath School an d let the children teach them. There being money for about eight months' free school this year, in our Township, the citisens of three districts have decided to have a three months' school this Summer. The other districts perhaps will decide the same. Miss Addie Mullin was chosen teacher of Dist. No 2; MUs Addie Ilubbell, of Dist. No 3; and T. W. Clendening of Dist. No 5. We hope the parents will not neglect this opportunity of forwarding their children in education, but that thry will look iato the future (as is their duty,) and see the great importance of an education to their children. With an ed uoation thev may reach honor, wealth, wisdom and happiness. Will Parrott is said to hare the best matched team in the State. Wm. Williams has purchased a span of match mules, and intends farming thinking he is too short to reisb. the uppermost shelves of a dry goods house. Jhn M. Miller has one match horse. T. I.
