Another "Coifidencs G. me" Broken Up About two weeks ago a couple of men stopped at Miller House, registering ifcei names as N. T. RJair and J. L. Patten. They canvassed our County, rppreeenting themselves to be in the Patent Roofing Cement business, and solicited people's notes, agree
ing to furnish their patent cement for said notes. We hate not learned how successfully they plied their avocation here, though we understand one at least of the best citizens o! our County was induced to give them his note for $300 or thereabouts. It appears that they
came here from Rush County, where their
confidence game" was quite successful; but it
also appears that some of the victims in that County, having good reason to suspect some
thing wrong, resolved to investigate or break up the game that was being played so successfully, and last week the aforesaid Blair &
Patten were overhauled at Laurel on a charge
of forgery or swindling, ard were handcuffed
and taken back to Rush County for trial. These "confidence games" are becoming a
little too common, and it is strange that peo
ple will any longer allow themselves to be
thus imposed upon and swindled by irrespon
sible strangers.

Hqofland's German Bitters, A Bitters icithout Alcohol or Spirits of any kind, Is different from all others. It is composed of the purejaices of vital prisCiplr or Roots, Hekbs, and Bares (or as medicinally termed, extraots), the worthlessor inert portions of the ing not being used. Therefore, in one bottle of this Bitters there is contained as much medical virtue as will be found in several gallons of ordinary mixtures. The Roots, Ac, used in this Bitter are grown in Germany, their vital principles extracted in that country by a scientific Chemist and forwarded to the manufactory in this city,
where thev are compounded and bottled, v-on-
taitling no spirituous ingredients, this tiitters is freefrom the objectious urged against all others;
no desire for stimulants can be induced lro:u their nse; they cannot make drunkards, and carnot,
under any circumstances, have any but a beneticial result. Hoofland's German Tonic
Was compounded for those not inclined to extreme bitters, and is intended f"r use in cases when
toine alcoholic stimulant is requirsd in connoctitn
with the Tonic properties of the Bitteis. Ivich bottle of the Tonic contains one bottle of the
Bitters, combined with pure Santa Cbuz Rca and flavored in such a manner thit the extreme
bitterness of the Bitters is overcome, forming a
preparation highly agreeable and pleasant to the
palate, ana containing ine uiemciuai m m
the Bitters. The price of the Tonic is 1.50 per
bottle, which many persons think too high. They must take into consideration that the stimulant used is guaranteed to be of a pure quality. A poor article could be furnished at a cheaper price, but is it not better to pay a little more and have a good article? A medicinal preparation should contain none but the best ingre lionts, and they who expect ta obtiia a cheap compound will most
certainlv be cheated
