' Meeting of Franklin County Sabbath. School Union. Mat 28th, 1870. Pursuant to call, the Franklin County Sabbath School Union met in the basement of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville at 10 o'clock A. M , and was called to order by the President, A. B. Line. The exercises were opened with reading a portion of Scripture and prayer by Dr. Lynch. The Secretary being absent, L. J. Vanlandingbam was chosen Secretary pro tern. The President then stated that the object of the tnpeting was to review the work of the various Sabbath Schools throughout the Connty,
to consult and recommend measures promotive of the interest and success of the Sabbath School cause. There being bnt few Sabbath Schools present, A. B. Line, J. S. Martin, C Fogel and M. W. Haile were appointed a committee to ascertain all the facts they could respecting the Sabbath Schools of the County, and report the same to the Society at the afternoon session. A committee was also appointed to report at the same time a beard of officers to represent the Society for the ensuing year. The President thought there were too many officers on the present board for the good of the Society; so the propriety of reducing the number was left to the Committee on Nominations. Very interesting remarks were made by A. B. Line, Dr Lynch and M. W Haile upon the mode of opening and the way to create and keep up interest in the Sabbath School. O n mo!ion the meeting adjourned until 2 o'clock p. si. AFTERNOON SESSION. At the appointed hour the Society convened, and the following reports were submitted and concurred in : REPORT OF TREASURER. Having moved since the last meeting of the Society, I cannot lay my hands on the necessary papers to mike an accurate report, but from my recollection 1 think there wer $4,25 CHliie into my hands, $1 of which I paid for a blank book, leaving $3.25 in my bauds. Blooming Grove Items. Ma. Editor, I wish to say that in this locality there is nothing of interest transpiring, which is the cause of the silence of your correspondent. Farmers are complaining of the dry weather, and from appearances the crops of wheat, oats and grass will be shortin consequence. Occasionally we can see a S-)li of wheat looking fair in this and Fayette County, but a large amount ot the irround sown will not vield half a crop. Corn was put in the ground in good order, but the cool i 1 s B ' I dry weather is giving the cut-worm advantages, and they are using it to the destruction of corn fields, causing some to plant their fields over, and others to re-plant largely. We have a good prospect for fruit. Small fruits and berries abundant. James Clendening is appointed Post Master at this place, an 1 Will soon take charge of the office. Health good. More anon. H.
