The Good Templars' Festival Given in Metamora on the 24 th ult., was a complete success. The night was pleasant in alt respects but one roads too muddy to allow persons to come from a distance; yet quite a large number were present at an early hour. The supper was served up in the Masonie Hall, and the Odd Fellows Hall used for a promenade room. The tables were loaded with an abundance of delicious eakes and choice fruits; oysters served up in good style and partaken of very freely. No pains having been spared to render the tables enticing to the appetites as well as the eyes, so no efforts were spared in demolishing the contents thereof, and at ten o'clock the tables were completely cleared. Everybody seemed to enjoy the occasion very much, and not a harsh word grated up on the ear; but He who ever smiles upon the great cause of Temperance, teemed to waft gentle breeies of good will and social enjoyment over all. After paying all expenses we hare $50 left, which will be used in the Treasury of the Lodge for the benefit of the Order in this place. The sincere thanks of the Lodge are returned to the ft lends of the Temperance Cause who so liberally responded in donations. As a Lodge we feel much encouraged to proceed to work in earnest against one of the greatest evils the world ever knew; and if we meet with the hearty co opera tion of friends outside of the Lodge as well at inside of it, we feel that success will crown oar efforts. "And with God's good blessing o'er ns, We will shout the Temperance Chorus, And oca duty we will never shirk." Milt. Written for the American. There is Something Wanting Yet. Some Republican papers are reviving the animosities engendered by the Senatorial contest of l;st year. It will not be round a paying orcrntton. If we cannot go into the approaching campaign a united party, we had better save our time, money and temper by not going at all. lorro Haute Express. The Express says very truly. The Republican party of Indiana cannot afford to indulge in any personal animosities ''growing out of the late Senatorial contest" or any other contest. Principles first men afterwards. And the person who would attempt to revive any of the animosities or bitterness that unfortunately grew out of the contest for Senator last winter, is an enemy of the Republican p.irty and should be so plainly branded as such as to render his identity in this particular unmistakable. New Albany Commercial. And so say we. The men who arc bringing forward the names of men for the puffrages of honest Republicans, who broke down the organization last winter, and for which they are hated and despised by the great mass of the party, are the men who are engendering the "animosities growing out of the late Senatorial contest. ? In the language ofonrNew Albany cotetnporary, they are "enemies ta the Republican party," and as such should be "plainly branded;" and that is the sort of thing we propose now, and at all times hereatter to do. We know the sentiments of tbe Republicans here, and there is no division on that subject. We want a ticket of clean Republicans, and then we can have unity in our ranks, teal in the prosecution of the campaign, and success at the polls. It is idle to suppose that we can have any of these desirable results if our State : Ticket is made up (even iu part) of the ten whose disreputable record ot collusion with tbe enemy to defeat their own party nominee is Mill fresh in the memory of the entire rank and file of ludiana llepnblieans. At the conclusion of the Senatorial contest these disorganizes were held up to the seern aad contempt of the party by aIost the entire liepublican press of the State, and we are indeed clad to see that both the Press and I'eonle to-dav put ,he Pnuie estimate upon these fellows, al,d ,hat this shameless effort to Foist these ur "los,; 'cl'"1- j b!e business What we have heretofore said on the subject we said on mature deliberation, and ia the interest of the Republican par ty, and we stand by it. if any further effort is made to weigh down the Republican party with the 'balkies" or "dead weights," we will, as the representative of the twenty-five hundred voters of this county, renew the protest in stronger terms Still. uoin is on me aown graae. xne an nouncement made ia Wall street Testerday that during the month of December the G overninent will sell eleven millions of gold and purchase thirteen millions of bonds, had the effect to Bine the preminn from 23 to 21? the lowest point touched since the close of the war. The specula tors, aince tbe memorable collapse f the uold Corner, have been thoroughly demor alised, and give no signs of rallying. The Government has the upper hand, and the inference is that gold will not advance again much beyond 25 and may decline to iz or ID. Ibis is a gradual approximation toward specie payment under the policy of Mr. Boutwell, and at the present rate of progress it caa not be long before we snail arrive at a basis when a greenback will be as good as gold. The expediency 01 resuming is stroesir ursred by men whose reputation as sound financiers is good in commercial circles, and there will doubtless be found a strong party in Con gress in fator of making the experiment very soon. We shall not regret to sea the day when, as the miners say, we can touch the "hard pan," and have in our pockets "something that chinks," or its equivalent in paper money. Commercial It is rumored that there is a prospect of a lively quarrel between the, Pendleton.and llendricks wings of the Indiana Democracy, which will develop itself in the efforts of either party to obtain control of the approaching State Convention. Tbe bad faith of Senator Hendricks and his followers toward Mr. Pendleton at the last National Democratic Convention has aot been forgotten, and as both of these gentlemen arc prospective candidates for national honors, the position ol Indiana becomes important. The Pendleton wing have the control of the Sentinel, the organ of the party, and they will urge its proprietor, Mr. Bright, as Chairman of the State Central Cotiiuiittee, while the Hendricks faction will support (ieneral John Love. The Hendricks men held a caucus yesterday, and decided to slaughter Rright, at all hazards, but that gentleman holds some pretty high cards, aud it may not be so easily accomplished as was anticipated by the caucus.
