Everything that our eyes behold hare an agreeable diversity, so as not to weary us byta perpetual sameness. 'The vivid green of Summer, the gorgeous red and brown of Autumn, and the sober gray of Winter, are fitly contrasted to make us feel how wonderful are tbe ways of Nature. How beautiful are the sparkling rain-drops; how pure are the white snow-flakes;, how pleasing to the eye are the lovely, sweet-scented flowers that are lavished so prodigally upon brown mother Earth, covering her with a robe of light and beauty, filling the air with their sweet perfume, and delighting the heart of man by their thousand varied forms of loveliness. Then there arc the trees of the forest; the mighty oak, monarch of the wood; the lofty pine, the wonderful palm, and a great many others. Take a leaf from one of these trees. How wonderfully it is formed! What wisdom is displayed in the formation of that one little leaf! Man could never, never, with all his wonderful skill, form anything to equal it in simple beauty. Yet God covers the trees with them, fills every forest glade, and decorates all the earth. They are there for a little time; then fall, and are trampled under the foot of man, without one thought of the Supreme Wisdom that made them. Thus it is with our lives. We live, die, and are forgotten by our most intimate friends In a short time. There are a thousand other things that fill us with awe, the vivid lightning, the roaring thunder, the pouring cataract tambling over the cliffs in sublime and awful grandeur, seeming to proclaim, in its solemn roar, that God is the Lord. Then there is the mountain fit companion to the cataract towering up info God's glorious sunlight; its snow-capped summit reaching into the clouds, with its rugged defiles, dangerous passes, dark, awful precipices, large caves, fathomless abysses, and last, but not least, its terrible avalanches that come bounding forward down its steep sides, cathering strength as they go, sweeping everything before them, and landing at last in the peaceful valley, bringing with them death and destruction. The broad and boundless ocean, with its numerous inhabitants, its loveTy pink, lipped shells, its fertile islands and its coral reefs, again calls forth our admiration. Look at it on a calm day. Its bosom is as still and placid as if storms never swept over it; tne seauuiui snips are ijtnsr ..oat at rest, looking like some hu;e sea bird with white wing spread; and the dolphin and whale are lazily floating around, enjoy - themselves in their own way. Now look what a chaDge there is! A small cloud olF yonder in the distance. It gradually increases. The wind i rising. Hark! bow it whistles through the rigging of yonder ill fated ship! Th waves are dashing mountain high, threatening to engulf her with each returning surge. She is scudding along under bare poles; now every bit of canvass furled. Ha! do you hear that sullen roar? She ia upon the rocks; she breaks in pieces, and every soul on board goes down, down, there to remain until earth and sea shall give up their dead. As we view all this, and stand listing to tbe distant boom, boom of the Ocean, as it lashes the rocky shore, can we only exclaim, Thy works, oh Lord, are mysterious and past finding out. Let us now look at the heavens. What wonders are here displayed! The beautiful, blue sky; the radiant, dazzling sun; the calm, stately queen of night; countless dove-eyed stars; tbe beautiful rainbow set in the clouds, as the emblem of God's gracious promise to sinful man; and the numberless planets, all kept in their places by the hand of one common Creator. All these fill us with wonder and thanksgiving t&'God for His manifold blessings. Theo' there are minor creations of God that lire no less wonderful, the crawling reptile, the humming bee: the timid warbler lot the grove, pouring forth its matin song re .a. to its Creator, giving mm that praise which ungrateful man denies Him; the proud eagle, soaring aloft in all his kinglike majesty, companion of the bright sun, acknowledging no master but the will of his God; the fierce vulture, the untamed lion, the fun loving monkey, the grinning hyena, and Jlte savage wolf. Yet though wanting reason and intellect, every one of these objects praise God, and are more grateful to Him than Ilia most perfect creation. Each in their own way contribute to the glory of Nature and of Nature's God. Jennie. Metamora, Indians. CnaisTT'8 Haib Lotio. This Lotiois the best article manufactured for the hair.
