Highway Robbery. 3Ir. Wn. Ktllum, of Hash County, retnwiing from a collecting tour on Tuesday of last week, left the cars at Rnshville, and started to his home, a short distance in the country. He was attacked when about two miles from town by a highwayman who demanded ,lbis money or his life." Mr. K. banded over a package of money containing $ 2ö0, whereupon the robbers permitted him to proceed on his way, sup posing they had obtained all of his funds; but in this they were mistaken, as he had $300 on his person which escaped the clutches of the rascals.

The President, in this connection, expressed tho opinion that the agitation of the negro franchise question in tho District of Columbia, at this time, was tho mere entering wedge to the agitAtion of the question throughout tho Ötate?, and was ill timed, uncalled for, and calculated to do great harm. He believed it would engender enmity and strife between the two races, and lead to a war between them which would result in great injury to both, and the certain extermination of the negro population. Precedence, he thought, should be given to more important and urgent matters; legislation upon which was essential for tho restoration of the Union, tho peace of the country and the prosperity of the people.
