Another disgraceful riot occurred this afternoon, in the 17th ward, of a very serious character. A mob of five hundred, chiefly Iriah and Germans, attacked the Metropolitan Police, with missiles and fire-arms. The Police were driven back, aa were also a squad sent to their relief. Another dotatchment of one hundred met) waa immediately sent to the scene of conflict, and a requisition was made for a detatchment of military Tht riot waa premeditated, but was not to take place until to-night, when it was intended to commence with an attack upon the 17th ward Station House. A letter has been received in this place, and an extract of which has been kindly furnished for publication, seems to conflict with the reports of Indian hostilities on the plains. The letter is dated at Fort Laramie, June 11th, and says: A large number of Mormons are returning from Salt Lake. Eight hundred or a thousand have already passed us on their way to the States. Fear of impending difficulty with the Federal Government. or dissatisfaction with the doctrines of Brigham Young, is the cause of their abandoning Utah.
