Palmer Warren, tho deceased, was my room fellow at oar boarding boose. Whilo a student he was a young, pleasant man, of good reputation. Fuller was his senior in years, also highly respectable. These young men, it seems became attached to a young, though not handsome, girl, with a broad English accent, and both proposed marriage. The ball entered the left breast and penetrated the heart. Warren fell dead. I was not there at the time, but saw his vest afterwards, with a bullet hole through it. As these young men were highly respected in Lawrenceburgh , especially Fuller, who was a great favorite, the trial excited unusual interest. I was present at the trial. The young Judge took his seat upon the bench for the first time. The prisoner was brought into court by Capt. Thomas Longly, the sheriff, and took his scat iu the bo. He was dressed in black, except bis white vest; his countenance was composed, and his eyes steady. Mr. Amos Lane and Mr. John Test appeared for tho State, and Messrs. Dun lei J. Caswell, Charles Dewy, Samuel Q Richardson and Merritt S. Qraig were of counsel for theprisoner. The jury were empanneleu with some difficulty. Tbe evidence was posiUveaod conclusive. Mdl tm anrnmerits of tho cnunaol occupied several aays. twery appeal that it was possible to make to the jury by tillable counsel for the prisoner, was fklly met by the closing speech of Mr. Lane for the State. Tito jury altera short absence, returned a ver dict of "guilty of murder in tho first degree." The Judge, after overruling a motion ftr a new trial, pronuuncoid ' a most impressive nd solemn sentence of death by hanging upon tho prisoner. The court room was filled to overflowing with both men and women. All wert- mit eh affected and many tears were shed. The prisoner 1 looked pale and agitated, yet it was i apparent that he wies not w ithout hope. The execution was fixed at a ! distant day by the Court to afford an ' opportunity to tent the legality of the 1 conviction iu the Supreme Court. I The judgment was attiruied ly tinla Judicial tribunal and the record returned. Tho people of lcarborn ' almost in mass signed a petition to ; the Govornor for the pardou of Ful- i ler; and such were his hope that he refused to escape from prison, when he could havo done so. Time rollod on, and brought the fatal hour, but no pardon; and Fuller was publi l executed in the presence of thousands This case will long be remembered in old Dearborn w r. The mind of the reader, and my own recolections, may require rest from this deep tragedy, by relating other cases of a more comical character. Mhortly after the trial of Pullerthe Court called tho case of Michael 0 Brian, indicted fer tho larceny of a watch the property of Jemmy O'itegan The prisouei' appeared in tho box. He was a little pock-marked Irish -aaaa, who was evidently accquaiuted with the dear cratur, as well as tho privat resting njaoyaa iu tha out nouses of the city. In the witness stand sat Jemmy O Regan, tho prosecuting witness asmall. rather good looking Irlshinun. with a flamiug red head, ami one eye that looked aa if it bad beeu put in with rod putty, the other had long takcu leave of his countenance. Gen. James Dill was the clerk of arraigns. The General was a distinguished connecting specimen of the laat and the present generation- a perfect gentleman, with a fine ruffled shirt, Tmff pants and a long rtneue down hin back, and with a solemn look and a voice that would almost arouse tho dead. The tteueral speaking to the prisoner said, "Michael O'Brian, stand up and hold up your hand.' "I will iuat do that very thing as ye aak mo.'
