From tka CVrtrraJ Chrtsitmu JJrrmf.i. Odo of tbo boat systoma of medicnl practice ever known, and which will probably stand at tho bend of tho lift for nil coming tine, is nursing. Good rnro WW do more than nil tho medioioo in tho world without it. Medicine it wmotirocs very good, but the mmt Willful physicians havo found they could do but little with aerioua ataes without ttmt initlligeot and careful watching, it all times required for the removal or Drevontion of irritating cnuaeu, im known as good nursing. Tho writer oune owned n homo suffering from an excess, vo oough. Numeroui remedies woro proposed by kind neighbors, onojgh, doubltrsA, to havo killed him at oooa. It waa eonoluded to dis oard all, to givo tho best attention to hiawantsvtnd avoid everything whlou onuses or prolongs u cold. This waa during the ohangeublo wwalher of autumn, and hu whb blanketed whenever a ohill nir waa apprehended, be wna work od vtrv moderately, avoiding proapiration, and bo was Aid on succulost food, which was supposed tu m vor expectoration, and ospociully young clover. In a few weuks natuio had performed a perlbct euro; and if any ooo of tho nostrums had 'accidentally been employ od, and had not pro von very prejudicial, it would unquestionably havo received iiigh pruiso for its efficacy. It ia of tbo utmost importance to discria.in.ito bet.ion rtcoverv by virtue of . ... . . - . medicino, and in spito of it. To keep animals in health U mom important than to eure sick ones, and fur this purpose a few leading rules should always bo observed, via: let. Allow a regular supply ol aalt; it is useful, .but an ohservAnon of ihn nr.uvilin ruh without salt, will bo incomparably better than their infraction with i it. 6. Never feed musty or bad food. If musty (odder must bo used, pass it through a rapid cutter, and moisten, suit, and meal it. 0. Avoid unwholesome or poisonous plants in pastures and in hay 7. Guard all animals against sold rain and snow falling on them and against lying on cold, wet ground. 8. All changes of food must bo gradual. If from hay to Css, lot tho grazing be but an ir the first day, two tbe next, threo tbo next, &c The same oaution must be observed in beginning to feed with roots, grain, 9. Be careful that animals have enough of oxcrcUc.and plonty of. pure, fresh air. Stables must bo well ventilated; animals often become sick from breathing foul air. 10. List, but by no means least, let cleanliness bo observed All animals oven pijj-s kept clean and curried, are found to maintain their flesh better, or fatten faster, than when dirty and neglected, and cleanliness is more important to health than for flesh. The application of caustic lime to the soil causes an increased production of potash, for limp possesses the power of decomposing the roeks and earths which contain it, tml itself usually contains small quantities of this substance Home pUnt require more potash lhanoiheri (for example potatoes, tobacco, cabbage, turnips, ect:)and hence should only be grown ia a judicious rotation with other crops unless special application is made. hone. dut. must be principally attributed to the ingredient of bones. In its free state, phosphoric acid Is soluble in water, but when brought iato contact with lime It combines with it, forming phosphate of lime In this oom binalion U ia the chief element of bones, is found in the solid eservmeni of horses, cows, and sheep, and the same may be discovered in the seeds of plants Magnesia always occur in plants in associat'on with lime, and e.ra the same relation to this nold; and both, when thus eorobined, bear the famil'sr nrnnu of "phosphoric cid onrlhs." They are Insoluble until no. ted upon hv other suhstanees, a rapid decomposition may be brought on by strong aelds sulphuric or muriatic, fur instance while one more gradual lakes plaoe in the presence of decayin, manure, Phosphate of lime has been found to call forth nn exceedingly vigorous growth in the roots of plants, hence it is valuable for root erope, but it produoei its full effeois onlyjwhen used in connection with other rich manures. A. Lime and Magnesia are both indispensably necessary to the growth of plants but they are almost universally distributed ovt r the earth, and access ible to the farmer wherever it supplies lime stone, chalk, marl or gypsum, and in these forms are genernlly . i ! 1 lo tho toil. The numerous and diversified benefits which they impart partly as dir -ot means of nourishment, partly asagents which impiove the ground, or loosen it. or, on die other hand, as substances which neutralise acids and hasten decomposition wl.I require a separate article to enumerate and has already received some at lention in our columns. 6. Stticia is found in all plants, and in many in very considerable quitutily. Henco we infer thnt it is an easential constituent of plants, and one which must bo supplied; hut as it forms the principle mass of our solid earth, and is present in every soil and, in all spring and river water, the farmer's care need only be directed to rendering it soluble by doep plowing, good manuring and the application of lime: which fur nish ammonia, potash, lime, etc. all solvents of silicia. A large quantity is supplied by the notion of the atmosphere, froit, water, etc , upon the toil, nod it is most largely present in most animal manuros. Other constituents of manure, oxide of iron, sulphuric and muriatio aoida, are alio generally diffused through Nature. To conclude, the chief attention of tho farmer must be turned to the supply of nitrogen. Nextl to this, phosphoric acid and alkalies claim the groatest consideration. Stockltnrdt expresses their comparitive money value as follows: nitrogen.
