A PAPER FOR THE PAM&Y CJRCIE DEVOTED TO Tiiii KmZMWt AND IWSTRÜCT30W OF YOUNG AND OLD.
Lgla Ii v . Tbcmoat Morning, Fab. 5. The Senat met at 9 o'clock. Hefrcu wished to have the journal 10 corrected a to tat what tho Prcaiilo-it aid, in bis place, before going into John Convention on ycrterdrtr, and submitted a resolution to that effect. Sago aaid ho did not bear what the prosid out Mid, ami ho did not think any Senator On the floor lim! heart, whnt tho i'resident remarked; itulcs it wm tlio liouorable Senator from Vanderburgh, who ran up to listen. Ho thought if tha speech of the President contained what Hofren said it did, it did not state ibo truth, and thonght it wrong to place misstatements on the journal. Murray said tho position and assumptions of tho presiding officer were Talso in all their bearings. Ho wanted no such statement as H often tleoircd to put upon the journal of tho Senate. He did not want the proceedings of the Senate to show that, by implication, even, tho Senate recognised the so-called Joint Con volition. Johnson desired the facts to go before the people, and was willing to stand or full by the decision that tho people would place upon them. Bears wished to know of Johnson if he desired all tho facts to go upon the journal, and if it was necessary to state whore the President got his supper Tuesday evening. Tarkington said it was n common practice to have the journals of legislative 1 1 -i corrected in order to show the facts. He desired that what was dono and said prior to the time tho President left the stand should be placed upon tho journal. March remarked that what the President Mid was no part of tho proceedings of theSonato, and was opposed to having sny such statement go upon the journal. He wee In hopes tho farce had ended. Now that two men had been selected to go to Washington to obtain money and office under false pretonces,ho thought tho g . comedy could end with propriety. it beat Winchell's entertainment in tlio laughablo feature of the transactions, and he bad no doubt but that Winchell would have paid all the expenses of the queer assemblage, if he had only boon allowed to charge twenty-five cents for each one desiring admisioit into tho Hall to witnots the gravity of a legislative drollery. Sage moved to lay Hofrxu's resolution, for correcting the journal, upon the tablet whieh was carried by 23 ayes to 22 nare. The Chair stated tho roasons why he had insisted on having tho nainoof Mr. Wood called as Senator from Clarke county. He thought the Constitution had been violated, und tbe constitutional right of a Sonntor had been violated, and ho had thought, from what no considered ns right, and from his private knowledge, that ho could not consider tho action of tho Senate had during his absence, as binding upon him. Out upon consultation with others of more xperionce than himself, ho had concluded be was in error. A majority of Senator had directed that tho name of Mr, Woods should not bo Callod as tho Solictor from Clarke, aod as soon as a direct voto should bo taken npon a question now pending, that a portion of the record should ho expunged, that portion showing tho adoption of tht report of the Jmliciiry committee declaring the seat of the Senator from Clarke raennt, he would coase to recnguito Mr. Woods as a Senator, but u t I th.it direct and decisive vo'o should be taken ho shu'd rerogniio Mr. Woods as a uiomber of tin-, body. Tho Sonate haathe power, by a majority of rotes of nil members, to dec the sent of any member vacant, ai d fiom that decision thero was no uppeul, except to tho peoplo. Hofren's resolution fur expunging :h.d portion of tho journal u.uno l nimm, was ordsrod to lie on the Ub'o yesterday afternoon, and by cousentoftbo Sjnnic, id N no it was further postponed. By Craven, a memorial from P. O. Da ly, ehowing that he wo duty elected as Senator for the county of Chukc, at tho last general election, bj pipe of La Hoy Woods, who had vacated his seat by accepting of another office, and asking to Lj admitted to a seat in tho Senate. Wcliace moved to lay tlio petition on the table. Nut so laid, by 21 aye to 25 nay all the Democrats present voting in the affirmative. The memorial was referred to tho committooon elections all the Democrats present voting against so referring it, except Fisk. Ry Dear, n remonstrance against the sham joint convention of Democratic mombars of tho Legislature, in tho following words: Whs BE as, On tho 2d day of February, 1857, there was held in tho Hall of the House of Repräsentatives, n meeting purporting to be composed of curtain member! of the Ooiier.il Assembly, which, it is eaid, was an adjourned meeting of a so styled Joint Convention, refened to and characterise." in n certain preamble presenteil to and watered upon tho journal of tho Senate, Jan. 29, 1857 ; And Whereas, Said meeting neither entered npon, entertained, nor did and other business than.like tho "King of the French, with his forty thousand men, march up the bill, and then march down again;" simply assemble, and without vote, decision or order therefor, by the solf- onstitutod, elf-elected, or self-chosen Pro. dent thereof, adjourn to moot again on tho fourth day of February, without the sj e "ti .. of any object, reason or design for such adjourned meeting ;

And Whereas, At saids meeting, it is further reported, and by some behoved to bo true, that a sham, illegal, fraudulent and disgraceful attorn pt at an election for two United States Sjnators was had, which if correctly reported, resulting, a it U said to have dour, in tho choice, by such nsscmbly.of Jcao D. briuht and Gr.i'i.im NFitch, as such Sjuator, can only bj regarded a an informal expression of the
