Ltflilatlvr b eed I aar mndc n t Thtbs&at, Jan. 97. The day was taken up in the Senate, in the introduction of bill and resolution and in defeating the proposition of the Republican! not to allow a Senator to rote on hi own eligibility to a seat In the house, a silly bin passed, by a ota of 70 to 18 repealing the Prohibitory Law that tba Supremo Court had killed ore than a y eat ago. Widsmoat, Jan. 29. Nothing of importance was dona in either boose. The time was taken up in proposing resolutions, amendments kc. Nothing will be dons for about three Thubsdat, Jan. 29. The business of the Senate was, to-day, more than ordinarily interesting. Griggs offered a resolution in reference to the election of United State Senators. Herren said be desired a call of tho Senat beforo taking a rote on Urigjs resolution; and after a call had been made, and a full Senate ascertained to be present, Griggs withdraw his resolution to make way for another of a similar nature, which he understood would be offered. By Bobbs, that the Judiciary Committee be requested to inquire whether there is a law permitting person of foreign birth to inherit property bequeathed to them in foreign countries, and if not, to report by bill or otherwise to meet the necessity of the case. By Suit, that It is inexpedient to go into the election of United SUto Senators, or other offloers, during the presout teeSuit mored that the resolution lie on the table, ami bo mads tho special order of the day for Thurday next at 10 o'clock. Johnston asked for a divisüu of tho question. It was first ordered to He upon the table by 18 ayes to 1 1 nays, and then made the special order of the day for Thursday by 16 ayes to 94 nays. By Flsk, that the Senate, with the content of the House, meet in Joint Convention on Wednesday next, for the purposo of electing an Agent of State, and other State officers, and, when the specific object of the Convention is accomplished, to adjourn sine die. On motion of Freeland it was tabled by 87 ayes to 23 nays. By Gooding, that the Senat; will, with the House concurring, meet in Joint Convention on to-morrow evening at 2 o'clock, for the purpose of electing a Stats Agent, by joint ballot, and when the object of tho Convention is accomplished, to adjourn si ns die. Parker moved to lay the resolution on the table. So laid ayes 27, noos 28. By McLean, that whereas it has always been customary for United States Senators to be elected in joint convention, Ac, Ac, that tho Senate meet tho Jlnuso in joint convention on Monday next for tltcJ purpose of electing Unitod States Senators. On motion of Suit it was tabled ayes 87, noes 93. By Richardson, relation to the evasion by traveling show rompanli of tho license tax. By Cravens, that tho constitutional aud legal mode of electing United Statos Senators is by each House of the Goner.il Assembly to elect in a separate and independent capacity, and at a proper timo the Senate will proceed to such election. Tarkington mo veil to lay tho resolution on the table. Not so laid. Ayes 24 nays 26. Murray proposed au amendment, to Craven's resolution, instructing the Judiciary Committee to report a bill governing the action of the General Asaombly in sleeting Unitod States Senators. Tarkington moved to lay the amendment on the table. Not so laid. Ayes 84, nays 26. Murray withdrew hla ameudment. Hsfren moved to amend by saying that it is ma" legal and constitutional mode of electing United Statos Senators by each branch of the General Assembly acting iu a separate capacity. Hefren's smendment was adopted by 87 ayes, 93'nays. The resolution, as amended, was adopted by consent By Sags, that no mora resolutions iu reference to a Joint Convention of the two Houses of the General Assembly will be entertained by the Senate, until Joint Bales are adopted for tho Oovsrnmsnt of the two House In Joint Convention. McLean was opposed to tho resolution. He said if this measure was adopted Joint Rules would bo adopted during tl session. Sage remark od that it had boon sottl in a caucus of the Democratic party in t Legislature, that no Joint Rules should adopted, but that the trap should be ke constantly set, in the hopo of catching, a .a . s s some means, me opiwatuou narty iu joi a sj m w Convention. So Aur as he was concerned, he woul never consent to any Joint Convention, u til some degree of fairness should shown by the Democratic party. Tarkington said thero' was au imperative statute for the election of Canal Trustee. He asked if the members here desired to havo the State toko bark ths Canal fron the bond holders. Ho thought the Senator from Switaerland a llttlo mistaken in charging thst the Democratic party were Instrumental In preventing tho adoption of Joint Rules. Wallace spoke agaiusl the adoption of the resolution, and exculpated himself from all sin that tho Democratic .tarty had committed two years ago. Murray said the gonttotnan from Montgoenery always took good cart to exculpate himself from all blame for ths raledr, meanoreof bis party, but what was meted two years ago by the Democratic party to tba opposition, shovld now be administered to those who were so eager to proscribe Ute othsrs. Their lulquity should fall upon their own heads. That party had twfoa defeated the election of United Aales Senator, and now they should not reap the advantage of the fraud and corruptions they heretofore practiced. Wallace replied to Murray, and made a length) peach on the position of tho Republican party characterising It as a revolutionary party, ami read from an article in "We, the People,1' in support of I . statements. Drew made an exeiUd speech, In which 1st threw back the insinuations of Murray, es ht said, that the DemooaUo tteuatots

who were here two years ago, had perjured themseves in refusing to carry out the Uwt and Comtitution. Salt, to a few remarks, suggested to Wallace that he was a young man, and the allusions ho made to the Senator from Wayne, who was an old man, in reference to the charges against him published in the Sentinel, were not becoming in one of his Wallace's years. His gray hairs should havo protected him from any such language as Wallace had thrown at Mr. Burke. Tho denial by Burke and Yaryan should hare been sufficient for Wallace, until other and different proof was brought forth. Wallace, in replying to the charge of illegal voting made against tho Democratic party, took occasion to refer to tho testimony published in the Sentinel in reference to the election in Rush County, in which Messrs. Burko and Yaryan were implicated In reviewing tho history of parties, which other members had drawn into tho debate, ho declared himself an old Henry Clay Whig, and pawl a handsome compliment to the memory of tho Sago of Ashland. March made a little speech, in inch thero was considerable mirth. Ho was in favor of the democratic party bringing forth fruits meet for repcutonce, and wheu they bad given signs of contrition, he had no doubt tho Moral Instructor Mr. Woods would shrine their souls, and in due timo fit them to bo reccivod in tho old Joffersonian Ropublican party, sTst, which he was proud to act. Murray replied to tho lecture which ho said Wallace had read him. Ho would go before bis constituents for an approval of his acts, and the gotitloraan from Mont gomery could take caro of himself, beforo hit, in any manner ho saw fit. Brown said he would vote for tho resolution, with tho assurance he had from Cravens, the Chairman of tho Committee on Joiut Rule, that he would meet tho Uouso Committee at any lime for tho purposo of forming Joint Rules. Sago's resolution was adoptod Ayes 31; Nays 18. AFTERNOON SESSION. Senate met. Cravens moved a call of tho Senate, as a number of members were absont. Resolutions being in order, Cravens offered the following preamble and resolution, intheshaio of n protest : "Whereas, On the 12th day of January, 18Ö7, whilst tho Sonato was engnged in the discussion of a resolution of tho IIouso of Representatives, iu accordance with Sec. 4 of Art 6 of the Constitution of this State, which is in the following words, to wit: "Tho return a of every election for Governor and Lioutouant Governor shall be sealed up and transmitud to the sent of government, directed to the Speaker of tho House of RcreHcntativca, who shall open and publish tho samo iu tho presence of both Houses of tho General Assembly," which resolution of tho Houso of Representatives had fixed tho hour of half past two o'clock for such opening aud counting; "And Whereas, Itoforo any docision wshad upon vaid resolution, and beforo any voto was either taken or demanded upon the same, and one half hour beforo the timo fixed upon by said House resolution, tho Lieut.
