Tbe Mormon Programm. An Inde pmdtnt Gorernmen' The subjoined extract from a sermon recentJj delivered by Bbiuham Torao, end reported io hie official organ. "There i not a territory in the Union that te looked opon with eo suspicions an eye as is Utah, and ret it is the only part of the netion that cares any thing about the Constitution. "Mormonism" is true, and all hell eannot overthrow it. All the devil's servants on the earth may do all they can, and as Br. Clinton has just said after twenty-six years faithful operation and exertion bj our enemies, including the times when Joseph had scarcely a man to stand bj him, and when the persecution was is severe on him as it ever was in the world, what have they accomplished? They have succeeded in making us an organized Territory, and they are determined to make us an independent Stat or Government, and as the Lord lives it will be so. (The congregation shouted amen.) I say, aa the Lord lires we are hound to become a sovereign State in the Union, or an independent nation by ourselves, and let them drive us from this place if they can; they cannot do iL I do not throw this out as a banter: yon Gentiles, and hickory and basswood Mormons can write it down if you please, but write it as I speak it.'

Muaosa Mosr Focl abd Ubhatitbal. On Monday night last a most fool murder was committed a few miles from Batavia. It appears that aome of the neighbors had assembled at the farm house of Mr. Taylor Carlisa to join in a husking frolic. On these occasions it is the custom to furnish a good deal of whisky. Late in the evening a few of tbe company left the bouse and built up a fire some one hundred and fifty or two hundred yards distant, in order, wo presume, to talk louder and to have more room to more in. Tbe sequel shows that the members of that little coterie got to drinking pretty freely, which led to a general quarrel. The result of it was that a young man, barely twentyone years of aga, named Henry Field, a few hours after the above-mentioned arty left tbe bouse, was found dead, aving received no less than five stabs with either a dirk or some other kind of kife, one of which pierced his heart. It was not known who committed the bloody deed, but on the following morning a man named Green H. Hosse, a brother-in-law of the murdered man, together with Dowty Csrliss, a brother of Taylor Caritas, were arrested, accused of the crime. The men taken in custody were to have had their examination yesterday at Batavia before 'Squire Penn. We did not hear the result of the investigation. The affair has causeda great excitement in that region the whole township was up in arms about it. We shall probably hear more about the matter to-morrow. Cm Enq So much for whisky. It is a powerful developer of the "manhood of man." We are Jolly. We have not met with a Democrat yet who is more than half satisfied be has got a victory. They are not jolly, and with reason too. The real locofoco party was broken down by the defeat of Pierce and Douglas in the Convention. Since then they see nothing bat the wreck of their leaders and their prospects. The accidental majority of Electoral votes is not the standard by which shrewd people judge of the strength of a partj. They look to the people, not the electors; and when they see that Buchanan baa not a majority of the people, and that his plurality is mainly due to old Whigs, they see plainly that tbe party of locofoeoism is broken up. Hence the real locofocos are not jolly. Bat tee are jolly. Did you ever see a defeated party so well pleased? We mre jolly. No political body in this world ever began with such a capital and such proapeots. We are jolly and ready to sing Yankeo Doodle any where. Cin. Gazette. Drett Warm Begin How. Oar climate is very changeable. Pleasant and charming weather soon passes into raw and cold-talking days, which, unless provided agninst, arc moat disastrous to the health of the Kiple. Bat the women the young las are the most exposed. I 'ride makes them the most insensible and foolish beings which claim anything of reason and prudence They dress to be sick, ana a half of them are. bocause they despise thick and warm elothing. Away with such nonsense, men and women, and prepare for the change of season. Better be healthy, beautiful, and robust, than fashion able, thin-shoed, and flounced tlrttsi gentry, with a gontael cough and con sumptive look. Then dress warm!Begtnnowl Put away your wafer understandings and summer trap pings, and betake yourselves to thick warm, sinsible, and protecting cloth ioir, such as sound-minded men and women ought to choose. The "Poor Whites "Growing Uneasy A few weeks linoe. in conversation with a Northern trentleman on tho po litiesl state of tbe country, Wise stated the position of affairs: "Wo hnvo no leer of Northern abolitionists. We eta take care of them. But what we have to fear is an insurrection union:; ourselves." "What!" said the other, "to iusurrection of the blacks!" No'said the Ooverner. "but of the poor whites." This remark ha explain eb by saying that he should not bv surprised if a bill were introduced into the next Legislature of Virginia to res trie t the slaves from learning the roechamo arts, with design to restore these trabes to the poor whites. Cool Robbkrt. The Boston Trav eller give an account of the most impudent robbery we ever heard of. It says that "on Monday evening, about half-past nine o'clock, while Mr. John McElroy was in hi store, No. 1 1 Mt rimac street, some thief or thieves fastened him by passing a slick through the latch of the door, and having thus prevented his egress, they broko the glaae in a window having a glass casing inside, and seised a small chest which was lying by the window on a counter, and made off with it. The trunk contained thirteen packages of bank bills, of a hundred dollars each, and three hundred dollars in gold. Ostioial Atsvocttt. A correspondnt of the New York Times says that oce of the inmates of Blackwell's Isand prison, at that city, having lately offended one of the keepers, was buried to his waist in tho earth, his hands tied behind his back, and there kept two days without food, except a little brvsvl which wsva put bjfsv poor lUDssUo. intO his mOUth
