A PAPER FOR THE PArTO ßlROlsB OBVOTBD TO THE AMUSEMENT UND JNSTRliCTJON OF YOUIHG AND 010.
From Hie Cincinnati Case tie. Prom Kansas. Biu Snu.Nos, Kansas, Oct. 28. The Fres State men meet here to day m a Maas Convention, for the purpose of nominating a person to represent them in Congress, in opposition ta Gam. Whitfield's claims as Dlegate from this territory. Between two and three hundred persons hare already arrived from the different settlements. I came m from Lawrence this morning, with a large delegation of the citizens. The weather is delightful. Several parsons are talked of for the position. Governor Reeder and Marcus I. Parrot, of Leavenworth, are the
The Convention has just been organized by tht choice of P. C. Schuyler, of Council City, Chairman, and Wm. Hutchison, Ksq., of Lawrence, Secretary. The chairman on taking his seat made a few remarks, setting forth the necessity of there being a perfect unanimity among the people in the support of the nominee. His remarks were listened to withjrreat lUon. An informal ballot was taken, and Governor Reeder and Mr. Parrot were the two highest; a few scattering rotes were given for Gen. Pomeroy, Mr. Winchell and others. On the second ballot, Reeder received a majority of all the votes given, and on motion his nomination waa declared the unanimous choice of the Convention The Governor has not returned from his excursion in Southern Kansas, where he has been engaged for the past two weeks, assisted by the United State Deputy Marshalls, in the irrest of Free State men, chtrged with the commission of various crimes, for arming themselves and for defending their rights, when invaded by armed bands of marauders from a neighboring State. His excellency is energetic in his labors, ( and already, if reports are true received from that quarter,) he has succeeded in taking twenty or thirty prisoners, and they will be brought to Lecompton. aad incarcerated in the prison house, already crowded with victims, who arc awaiting trial, charged with murder. His Judgeship Lecompte it is said, has determined to adjourn this term of Court next Saturday, and the cases now on the docket not disposed of this week, are to come up at the next term which commences some timo ia April. The eighty seven young men indicted for murder in the first degree, are very desirous of having their trial now. But that cannot be done, they must remain in prison from term to term of the Court, without a trial. It is believed that the Government will not risk the conviction of these men, having fears of its effect upon the country. But they will retain them as prisoners for month?, in a small and uncomfortable building, where many will die, and then after having suffered an imprisonment for months in the coldest of the weather, brought up before the Court, and as was the case with Governor Robinson, it will be found that the Government is not ready to proceed with the trial of these cases, and the prisoners will either be released or ad iitted on bail. But all depends upon who is our next President. If Fremont is the successful candidate these cases will be dropped at once. If Buchauan is elected no one can foretell its evil to Kansas. The pro-Slsvery man in Lecompton say that tho Democratic party is pledged to have Kansas a Slave State, "and it will be if our candidate is elected," say they, and some of our people take the liberty of disputing the assertion. Fours, ION. N. B. Mr. Bennett has been on trial in Lecompton to-day, before Judge Lecompte, on an indictment rf "assault and battery with intent to kill." It was proven that Mr. B. was at Hickory Point on the 13th of September last, when an attempt was made to dislodge a band of invaders who had taken up their quarters there after burning the town of Grasshopper Falls. Tbc Jury brought in t verdict of "guilty" against Mr. B. What bit sentence is t have not yet learned. Yours in haste, ION. Colonel Fremont. Whatever may be tho current of politics, Col. Fremont has, in the recent contest, gained laurels which no mere victory could have given. He has proved himself possessed of the most emi ent qualities of a man and a hero. Maligned by the most malicious lies, he has not stooped to answer them. Asaailedin the persons of his mother, wife and children, in te.ms which are only applicable to tho vile and oriminal, bo has borne it like a martyr, and reviled not again. Amidst a storm of fierce assaults ho hat remained calm, nor once departed from the dignity of his position and tile deportment of a gentleman. The passage of the Kooky Mountains amid the snows of winter, proved him capable of courage in danger and of fortitude in suffering, but his piuMao through the Presidential election proves him that rare character a moral hereo. While a shame, which can never be washed out, adheres to his assailants, he emorgss from tho ennHic wiser in conduct, brighter in renown We were not in favor of Fmbmont'x nomination, but if it appeared an error then the event has proved it right. Nobly has ho sustained th c tuio cmmillet to bi trust, which has been sallied by no act of his, but is now stronger end brighter than ever. It ! now certain that no other man could have aroused thu mt amount of popular svmpath , and to him luts been pais) the highest oomph munt ever bestowed by this nation on mm of hi age. At forfy livo only, while yet young, he has barely o scape ä an suction to thu Presidency. I or him it is glory enough. Cm., tktsrtt,'. One of the Signs. A Sectional President. James Buchanan is to be the next President of tho United States His partisans declared that if he were not made the next President, there would be no United States for anybody to govern. His opponent was a "sectional candidate," they said, and the Union could not endure him. We have now a clear view of the result of the late struggle, and can determine just how much or little any "section" had to do with It. Buchanan ias a majority in every Southern State, but one. He hus not a majority in a single Northern State. He will approach it in this State and Pennsylvania, but will not reach it in either. Division in four Northern States give him their electoral vote., but J.he votes of majority of the people in every one are given ng:iinst him. If that man who carries one section and losses another, entirely, or so nearly as not to affect the argument, be not a sectional President, wha' in the name of Nationality is he? Jas. Buchanan is rejected by tho whole North. He is accepted by the whole South, except one State, He stands the confessed embodiment of a policy designed to strengthen a Southern Institution. What is such a President but a "sectionalist?" What perversity of language, or ingenuity of misconstruction can make him anything else? But there is another consideration touching his "nationality." He is not the choice of a majority of the people of the Union. So far as the result is ascertained he lacks very many thousands of having a majority of the votes cast on tho 4th met The following is a correct as we have the means to make it, and will probably not very far from the truth. The Free States, except California, are allowed the difference between the combined Fremont and Fillmore vote, and the Buchanan vote, and tho slave States the majorities so far as ascertained, that Buchanan has over Fillmore. Maj. against Buchanan, 437,200. Buchanans majorities, 17C.0OÜ. Total nasi, against Buchanan, 2713, 4UU Thus Buchanan is in a clear minor
ity of a quarter of a million votes. New York alone comes within 3,000 of casting as large a majority against him as all the States ho gets give for him. I' urtber, if the returns from the tar Southern States do not swell very largely bevond what is indicated by the reports already received, Buchanan will but little exceed the popular vote of Fremont. In tho New England States, except Massachusetts, the 1'illraoro vote is very slight, not prob ably exceeding 10,000 in all of them. In Michigan it cannot be very large, but whatever it is it cannot materially diminish the Fremont majority wo have (riven, as that is repotted at 15.000 to 20,000, independent of the Fillmore vote, but allow that it will bo diminished 5,000. Iowa is claimed for the Republicans by 6,01)0 majority, so that wo need not diminish the yoto wo have given Uira but 4,UU0. Wisconsin is reported nt 10,UU0 clean Fremont majority by the latest dispatch from Milwaukie. Ohio gives about 20,000 Fillmore votes; Indian t, gay 25,000; Pennsylvania, nay 40,000 "straight Fillmore," New Jersey 18,000. Altogether the reduction in the above figures by the Fillmore vote will be about 271,000. Thus wo stand then: Fremont & Fill, in the North 437,300 Deduct Fillmore vote 271,000 Clear Fremont majority 166,00. Buchanan majority 178,000 Buch, over Fremont 12,000 Verily, this result is not a very bril-' . mm m mm iant victory. The balance ut Bu-; ehanan's popular majorities over Fremont, is but little over twelve la Ottsand, and the actual returns will not probably vary it a gref deal Thus our 'national President goes into office the choice of a minority ol the people, without a single popular majority in the Free States, and chosen only bv the bouih. It "section aiism" is "ever to be demonstrated by results, and by mathematical processes, it has been demonstrated in the late election in the case of James Buchanan. Indianapolis J oitrnal. Its Legitimate Fruits A lady ia Georgia State, in a communication to the New York Tribune, that a large number of her letters to Kansas and other points have been opened, on account of a suspicion that sho is tainted with Abolition bentiments, and that all her movements are subjected lo a most annoying system of espionage Like a woman of true spirit, however, she insists upon her right to hold what sentiments she pleases, and express them, either verbally or on paper, at her own conveniece. She relates other similar circumstances in the same vicinity, illustrating how the "peculiar institution" makes those who claim to be gentlemen forget even ordinary politeness and that respect to the female sex of which Anglo Saxons are so fond of boastiug the world over. Such occurrences are but the legitimate and inevitable result of the Slave system . The N. Y. Courier and Enquire speaks of these occurrences as follows: The violntion of official duty in Postmasters is not an uncommon thing. It has been practiced even upon Southern people themselves when writing to Northern friends. Letters at the South addressed to John C. Fremont, within the last four months, have been repeatedly intercepted and broken open. One Postmaster In Virginia even went so far as to refuse point blank to mail a letter addressed by a Virginia lady to Mrs. Fremont, who was her relative the Postmaster declaring that no letter with that address upon it should mailed at his office- And he kept his word. That

W Great men never affect anything. It is your three cent individuals that put on airs, swell and try on the pomp. The difference between the two is as great as between a barrel of vinegar and a bottle of syrup. OT A gentleman having done something wrong in a public garden in Paris, and being called to au account for it by one of the guardians, said to him, "If I were to put a dollar upon each of your eyes, could you see !" The answer was, "No, and if I had another upon my mouth I could not speak." A crooked gentleman, on his arrival at Bath, was asked by another what place he had come from "I came straight from London," replied he. "Did you so?" said the other, 'then you must have been terribly warped by the way." Hence a reliable family phyiic is of the first importance to the pvbne health, and thu Till lurs been with (oniuinmits skill to meet that ucracx extensive trial of iU virtues by Physicians, ore, and Patients, has shovo: results ts. !. Any thing hitherto known of any medicine. Cures have boon effected beyond bci.ef, were they not substantiated by persons of such exalted position aad character as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. Among the many eminent gentlemen who have testified in favor of thaw Pills, wo may mention : Prof. J. II. Locks, Analytical Chemist, of Cincinnati, whose high professional character is endorsed by Joan MoLaU, Judge of the Supreme Court of Ok United State. Thos. Coewiw, Secretary of the Treasury. Hon. J. M. Wright, Governor of Indiana. N. Lomowoktii, great wine grower ot Um West. Also, Dr. J. R. Chiltow, Praetfoal Chemist, of New York City, endorsed by Hox. W. L. makct, Secretary of SUta. Wm. B. Astor, Uie richest man in America. S. LdtLAKD ft Co., Propr's of the Metropolitan Hotel, and many others. Did space permit, we could give many hundred certificates, from all parts where the Pill have been used, but evidence even more convincing than the experience of rn.inti.t fÜU I BsSSJ is found ia These Püls.Ptho reit w upon M a a ills, the result of long in stigation and ottered to the public as the boat and study, are oflered to the public most complete which Uie present state of science can afford. They are compounded not of the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal virtues only of Vsgetsblo remedies, extracted by chemical process in a state of purity, and combined together In euch a manner as to insure the best results. This system of composition for medicines has been found in the Coerry Foctoral tod Pill both, to produce a in or efficient remedy than had hitherto been obavjsed by any process. Tho reason is perfectly obvious. While by the old mode of composition, every medicine is burdened with mors or less of acrimonious and injurious qualities, by this each individual virtue only that is desired for the curative effect is present AU the inert and obnoxious qualities of each substance employed are left behind, the curative virtues only beini; retained. Hence it is self-evident the effects should prove, as they have proved, more purely remedial , and the Pilli t surer, more powerful antidote to diaeaso than any other medicine known to the world. If, however, there should be any ose who has not received them, they will be promptly forwarded by mail to his request Of all the Patent Medicines that are offered, how few would be taken if their composition was known ! Their life consists in their mystery. I have no mvstteries. The composition of my preparation is laid open to all men, and all who are competent to judge on the subject freely acknowledge their convictions of their intrinsic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was pronounced by scientific men to he a wonderful medicine before it cifecta were known. Many eminent Physicians have declared the aamo thing of my Pills, and even moro confidently, and are willing to certify that their anticipations were more than realized by their c fleets upon trial. lney operate by their powerful influence on the internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it into healthy action remove Uie obstructions of the stomach, bowels, liver, and other organs of the body, restoring their irregular action to health, end by correcting, wherever they exist, such derangements as are the first origin 'of disease Being sugar-wrapped, they are pleasant to take, and being purely vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in any quantity.
