THE AMERICAN, DmaMpptiU Presby tarial Academy Thi Institution held Ks third annual exasatiaaaoa on Wednesday and Tbaradij el last week. The tale eerKaft etion of the Principal, IUr R B. Abbott, rendered it inexpedieot to hv an exhibition. But the xminatiott passed off is a msnoer that refleets credit un all eoneerned. They have, during the past year, entered their new building, which fur beauty of style and convenience fur the purposes designed, surpasses any building for school purposes we have seen ia the Wees, it is two stories high of the old Norman Architecture, with baitleneot roof and towers for belp.-yand observatory, aad contain seeen roosBS. designated as follows: One for (he Pi inter Department, "one for the Middle Department, two for the Claieal, one for naate. a Chapel and a Library Room, in which is a beasnrfal Camerm Oktemrm which contributes to the amusement e the students when at leisure. There U alst a duahle Hail, above and below, with cloaefa for the coovtnience of day scholars. Danlapst ille b a rural town and its inhabitants are noted for their sobriety and uprightness, and parents sending their children there need not fear those demoralising influences that so frequently render the school days of the yoon g student so pern iciou a The religious influence of the school is maattVat ia all its department, and the hue revival in the church and chord will leave a savor of piety that will be seit for j ears to oome. There are flee or six young men whose minds hwee been turned to the work ot the ministry and are pursuing their cour with tlrfe end hi view. The Trustees have Leen fortunate
in obtaining teachers. Rev. R. B. Abbott ie ardently devoted to the work. He fa a mta of good sense and most indosBHubJe energy, and he impresses the same spirit into his scholars. T tie ezaaeinattoa of his department give evidence of ft mailer' mind in the thoroughness, precision and promptneta of the students in ever) thing in wbieh fhey were instructed. Mr. V. H. The Primary and musical Departments were ender the instruction of As tea Harriett B. Lyons, late of Dr Scott's School. Oxford, and if the Dr tends out many such graduates for teachers, he is well worthy f the reputation he has secured, and we have no doubt but hie new College, now nearly Snh-hed, will be fiilled with the daughters of those whj wish to secure the highest advantage possible fur their children. The examination of the Primary Department called forth tl. admiration ef every visitor. Miss L Wihwt what wwe worth doinir at all. was worth doing well," aad the answers of the smallest scholar could be beard distinctly in every part of the crowded chapel. Not being a judge of music, we shall forbear to speak of this De partmeat, except to say that where such excellence ia manifested as a teacher in other things, we may confidently expect the same in every duty undertaken In cocelu'ion we would say that this school seems to hare taken a deep hold on tha affections of the wboiv common ty not only of DunlapsvUle, but of the surrounding cosemy. The house was filled to overflowing, not of the citm-ns of DunUpeville alone, but ihey were from id i. Ceroael. lliley. Liberty, Ox ford. Brownsville. As you are aware it was the day appointed in which to raiae a Fremont flag. Oeiruj to the enthusiasm which is mtnlfestei by the Republican party, we had speoted a good township meeting, hut as there had been no p trtieuUr effort made to atiraei a crow J m there wore no poateis up as there were not even the annouoentent that a Band would be present, aa it was only Minounoed in ihe Anv-ri can the proceeding Thursday that Nelson Truster Ketj., would address the people, we were not anticipating the immense assemblage and the boundless enthusiasm manifested. At any early hour in tha afu moon the people began to aseemb'a from all directions, in wagons, on horte back and on foH with rausio and banners, and our city was soon densely crowded with the bold yomanry of old Franklin. The ladies were out in numbers, aad by their presence and smiles cheered on the sterner sex in tha mighty struggle in which they are now engaged. Soon, by the vigo rous exertions of those present, 11 tg-auff, 125 fret ia height, and straight as aa arrow, was towering aloft ia the heavens, ftom which floated the beautiful Banner, preaen ted to the Fremont Club by the ladies of Bloominggrove. on wbieh was inscribed those spirit-striving words, FREMONT aad FRSEOOM. ' 'Forever S tattbataiandard tbeet, Waerw lathe foe bit (altabeio-s ea, rtta Frvedo'nH aoll beneath omrfaet, Aad reodom'abannerrtrwaniiiif o'.r as." After mating the welkin ring with cheers lor Fiemoatm Dayton. Morton. Cumbach, Jessie, and (be Republican ladies of Bloominggrove, the crowd assembled around the stand, and, after the Brookville Bsnd had discoursed loise excellent music, were entertained with one of the most thrilling, elMewAt aad argumentative speeches bv fVeiaoo Truskr Esq . which it has bee) ssae god fortune to near uurinif the camp dgn. Iiis exposition of the recreancy of the ohl liners from the formet creed f f the Democratic parly, together with their vactllatin course oa the seejeet of Squatter Sovereignty, told with crushing effect on thoic in corrigible Beehaniers present, whose countenances wore the very embody -sent of the spirit of the linen :
"RA from the TOM as docful sound, M i tie m rt attend the crj ; Ye Burbanlers one vi the f round Wknr ww oiutliilrel) II.'' After Mr. Trusler had conduded, your townsman. Col. FarqaLr, ad dressed ihe meeting lor a short time in his usual htppy at Ie. At this itage of the proceedings an incident occured which it may not be amirs to men tion. Tho Col. took occasion during his remarks to expose the arrogance and presumption of Sheriff Bttznerin refusing to nllow the People the use of the Court House fur the purpose o( holding a country meeting. While indignation was kindling in ihe cheek and daahiug from the eve of almost the entire assemblage, the would-be notorious W. W. Hubbard Esq.. Lawyer Hubbard of Bear River exSurvejer, ex-Pedagogue, ex Churnmaker fcc, thrust himself forward in the face of the meeting, to the annoyance of the speakers, and the infinite disgust of the audience as thu a polo gist of B ttsner. But Lawyer Hubbard reckoned without his host. He was met with such a perfect storm of yells, groans and hisses as caused him to wit in a m inner equal to Jonah's gourd, and to draw in his horns so suddenly as to forever eclipse the entire Terrapin family. The scathing rebuke administered to the crest fallen gentleman by CjI. F. will not be forgotten by him, we predict until bis dying day. Aside from this incident, nothing occurred to marr the harmony of -our meeting, which was. certainly, the largest and most enthusiastic of nnv f the kind we have ever witnessed. Full 600 persons were present. Three times three for Free Speech, Free Press, Free Soil. FREMONT and victory ! FREEDOM.
Calonal Fremont. The Charleston Mercury of the 14th of September, 1847, says : "W regret to learn that Col. Fremont, whose departure for Aiken we noticed a few days since, did not reach that place to see his mother alive -She died but a few hours before his arrival. lie accompanied her remains the next day to thii city, and after witnessing tha last and ri'es, left here the evening following for Washington In this afflietioe, rendered doubly poignant by his deep disappointment in not receiving her parting look of recognition after his long and eventful absence, he has the sympathy ef our entire community. "The marked and brilliant career of Col. Fremont has arrested general attention and admiration, and has been watched with a lively interest by his fellow citizens of So th Carolina. Charleston particularly is proud of and the leputation which he list at so early an ae achieved for himtelf. Sbe claims as something in which she toj has a share. But for the melancholy circumstance attending his visit, our city would have manifested by suitable demonstration their respect fur In n, aad their continued confidence in his honor and integrity. It will require something more than accusation to sully them in the minds of the people of Charleston. Some months since a sword was voted to jhim by our aniens, the individual otjacrlptfuns to which were limited to II; it now awaits his acceptance at a suitable opportunity We are hnp py to learn that the ladies or Charleston propose, by a similar subscription, to furnish an appropriate belt to accompany the sword, an evidence that they loo can appreciate the gallantry and heroism which have so signall) marked his career, and have thrown an air of romance over the usually dry detail of scientific pursuits." AYER'S PILLS. FOB ALL THX PTOPOfli OF A FAMILY PHYSIC. Thsrb has long exiatsd a public demand Cor so effective purnttivs pill which could be relied on aa sure and perfectly safe to its operation. This has been prepared to meet that demand, and an extensive trial of its virtue has conclusively shown with what euceeaa it aeeomplinhea the purpoae deal en ed. It is eay to make a physical pM, but not easy to make the beat of all pUs one which should have none of the obiectfcme, bet all the adraataass, of every other. This has been attempted here, and arith what tnccese we would respectfully etrbintt to the public decision. It has been unfortunate for the patient hitherto that almost every purgatire medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bowels. 1 his is not. Many of thorn produce so much griping pads and revulsion in the system aa to more than counterbalance the good to be derived from them. These piUt produce no irritation or pain, aniens it arise from s previously existing obstruction or derangernent in the bowels. Being purely vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in any quantity ; b- it ia hotter that any medicine should be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their use ia tee several diaaaaes to which tbey are applicable are given on the boa. Among the complain u which have been speedily tawed by them, we mar mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms of Jaundice. Indigestion, Languor and Loan of ApK'tite, Liatlsaaneaa, Irritability, Bilious Headache, Mosas Feeer. Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side and Loins ; for, to truth, all these are but the oonsequence of diseased action to the liver. As sn aperient they afford prompt and sure relief to Ose. tfveneea. Piles, Colic. Dysentery, Humors. Scrofula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the boar, Ulcers and impurity of the blood, Irregularities ; in short, any and every case where a purgative is required. They have also produced some singularly successful cures in Kheurnstwm, Goat, Dropsy, Gravel, Krysipelss, Palpitation of the Heart, Paws in the Back. Stomach, and Side. They should be freely taken to the spring of the year, to purify the blood and prepare the system for the change of seasons. Aa occasional diiae stimnlatea the etomach and bowels Into hsslthy action, snd restores the sopetite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by theij stimulant action on the circulatory system, renovate the strength of the body, snd restore th wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism Hence an occasional does ta advantageous, even though no serious derangement exists ; bat un necesaary dosing should never be carried too (sr. aa every purgative medicine reduces the strength, when taken to excess. The thousand cases to which a physic is required cannot be enumerated bare, bat they suggest themselves to the reason of every body ; and it ta confidently believed title pill wit) answer a better purpose than say thtogwhlch bar hitherto been available to mankind, when thaw virtues are once known, tbf public will no longer doubt what remedy to employ when to nssd sit s cathartic medicine.
