Manuel Castro, a wealthy and influential runchero noted for his determined opposition to nil change, and enmity to the "Gringos," bad arranged for an attack on the Pueblo los Angelos, the headq uarters of Kearney, held by a small force of marines and volunteers. His agenta were in nil parts of the country, inflaming the inhabitants and urging them to joiu him.
