Such a country has no beauty, but when wo came to the beautiful village of Sidney, every countenance became more cheerful, and the bluegrass pastures around the town received especial commendations. On othor occasions we have noticed the pleasure which these pastures gavo to almost all persons, no matter what their pursuit or education. We regard them as the greatest ornament of any country, and as useful as ornamental. They are easily made, at no sacrifice of good timber, and yet, strange to tell, so few farmers have them. Half of our woodland districts are uncultivated, absorbing a heavy amount of capital, which is unproductive. If these lands were enclosed and laid down in bluegrass, the stock might be doubled and tho winter feeding reduced ono hall. Grass grown under trees is not so nutritious as when grown in the sun, but it keeps stock in a thrifty condition. If a farmer's aim is to fatten, he should expose his land to the sun. On this subject, we stated the experience oft leading Kentucky stock raiser, in our report of tho First Statu l air of this State. He said that one aero of blue grass grown in tho sun, is worth as much as live ru der a moderate shadeOn this point, we find tho following remarks of Mr. A. B. Dickinson, a large stock raiser of New York, in his address, published in the transactions of tho New York State Agricultural Society, for 1 854: "in advising you to out d iwu all those beautiful shade trees in your fields, which, in every other respect, are bo well nusDnnaoa, 1 sa i s a a t hopo you will not regurtl mo na it barbarian, lor I huvo really believod that which was a luxury to man, mast be beneficial to cattle.
