In breaking a pair ol' steers first, confino ono of them in a yard fourteen or eighteen feet square, high and strong onouli to hol! him; then enter the pen with a switch thrco cr four feet long, and with your pockets filled, not Vith rocks, but with carsol corn, up pics, carrots, &c Tarr.c the steer by feeding him, and convince him that you mean no harm. IIuv ingdono this, I introduco my busj incssto him, by getting him into a corner. Hero frtroko him and pet hira in various ways, feeding him with a nubbin or. two of com now and then. Of courso he must learn to haw so I striko him gently, on tho off ear with my switch, and alter that with my back towards him, twist his tail, (a littlo twisting is better than more;) 1 then conduct him back to his corner and order hira to whoa which from tho forco of circumstances ho is com pelled to do. Thus I teach him to stand as well as to haw, and in i shott time ho will obey tho com mand in 'any part of tho pen. - After sufiieicut prnctico in the pen, I let him out into a largo vard and thcro drive him .with equal success. . Here he becomes well accustomed to- tho Whoa Haw Gee processes. But if ho docs not pro vo sufficiently tracta ble. I return him acain to the 1 small pen for further discipline Tho other steer I servo ir. tho same way. Then taking tho boirs out of tho yoke, I Lay it on thcii necks, taking caro not to frighten tbcm in tho oper ation; then put in tho bows and I have a yoke of oxen. lut pre vious to yoking drive them side by side in the largo yard. . Whilo driving in the largo yard, either single or double, use a whip 8 or 10 feet long, and wheu driving both, put on a lash two or three feet long. ' , " - Cautions. Keep cool; use cau tion for voursclf and for your cat tie. If they kick you look out next time, but don t , return the compliment for you are not to consider yourself on equal terms with them. A littlo patting and rubbing is better. If you havo not . Christianity enough' to ; re turn good for evil, don t undertake to break steers. I" had rather break a pair of . wild s'eers for five dollars, than a pair that has been . injudiciously handled for ten. Many cattlo are broken in spirit and constitution ' whilo youngi Indeed, very few know what a good, well-broken,wcll-fed, and well-ten ded pair of oxen can do. How often wo hear the expres sion, "I wish I bad somo good neighbors, at least somo that wero willing to do' us a favor once in a while;' but not for us to do all for them, and have no return; for example, we havo a neighbor that lets bis lino fenco got down, - and his cows and horses get into our grain every day;' and if we scud him word, he has no time to repair his fence. Ho also lets his hogs visit us every day, and stay till night, with tho ex.cuso . that ho never missed them. They do damago tö the yard in rooting up flowers &c; and not content with that, they got into our potatoes, and rooted them more than half up, and we got no pay for our troublo and loss. The owner could lot them como and stay two or three days, and then send his boy down to know how much corn they had eaten, instead of coming himself like a true neighbor. Another of hi3 tricks is, borrowing our bags, and keeping them till they aro sent for, and then not get them. . Finally had to, go ourselves found them rolled up in a heap under a box in the barn, miuus two or three, tho rest with holes eaten in them. They had never thought of sendiug them homo. Kinv. .

Tit i: uv. My first .experience was about six years ago, in n- nursery ol about 1,200 apple trees, which be came so, infested with . lice that tho trees mostly . turned --black, and tho leaves withered ntid died. Tho ants accompanied them in counties numbers. I tried various remedies, need less to mention, ns they did no good. At lat I ' took i or pounds of tobacco, chopped it up, boiled it, and pressed out the juice, and made a strong decoc lion. I then took alargo tin pan, and with tho help of au assistant to hold tho pan, I bent the trees over and immersed tho trees and branches that were infested in tho tobaeco water. It completely destroyed tho insects, nud tho ants did not iinncar to bo at all i pleased with tho baptism. Manv of my trees had become so , bad, that tho leaves dropped off After the application of the tobacco water, tho trees leaved out again and grew with great ra pidity. ' " Since then 1 havo had to report to the same remedy ; muro or less, every year, both in tho nursery and young orchard, Mid have over found it clleetual when tho tobacco water is madö fufliciently strong. As tho Ireea grow older 1 lind they aro not so likely to bo infested with them. Country dentlrmttn. now to .truer. Each cylinder, 1 may call them, is 3 1-2 feet long, mado of red birch, oak is as good, nud the heads are 5 inches thick; staves 2 1-2 inches thick, aro spiled on to tho heads with nails orspikes 5 inches long first boru through tho staves to prevent splitting. Ono part of tho roller, or half of it 1 should say, can roll independent of the other half, und to prevent tho main rod from springing, thero ii a box cast to put on the middle of tho rod, between the two boxes set in tho heads, and from this box forwards and backwards the frame,"cxtonds a half inch iron rod, alio ' upward to a piece ofscantling framed .at each and into a an upright pieco fram ed into each of the cud pieces of the frame, a r.d to prevent the upward braco from working up or down, thcro isa nut above and one below the scantling. By having the front piece to tho frame 9 or 10 inches wide, tho plato and neap to a rnowiug machine can bo used,1 and save the expense of ono neap. The ends ol the 1 1-2 inch rod arc fixed stationary in the frame. Tho patterns for tho boxes arc mide by Basoc ' Phillips, living somo four miles from this place, and the only man having a roller similar to mine. A man named Johnson, living at Mohawk, in this county, made the Cisting for in r roller. , The roller should not bo less than 2 J feet In diameter and 3 would be better. . Mine $ 3 feet i. e. 2 fret 7 inches head, and 2 inchca cUves, and in turning round, one part will turn one way, the other part iho other way. Tho whole cost vt ft rollt r U $15, and if one makrnii. hiuj;lf, ii cun be done, perhaps, for, lesa than that: at any rate it will pay for itself in one season, if it costs 935. Qounlnj Ocn tleman.
