Detail of tho Rittlo of Saltillo Tho Plaza taken by the Rev olutionUU, after two days hard fighling-Tw(tIiirtlii of SantaAnna's forces put horsdo com tat Capture by tho Revolu tionists of 00,000 in specie, nud a quantity of stores and munitions of Wnr -Gen. Vidaurri advancing upon Matnmoras with alirgn Federalist forco Critical Position of Gen. Woll, &c, ... , .. BaowjuvrtLie. TtxM, Au. 18. We have hl highly excitim? and. important events ainco my Ut, of which the following fs a hurried mmmsry: O'ri tho 22d and 23 1 ull., severe tattltj was fought at tJ.iltillo, between 1st Federal fore. a, under Gar. Vi dturri, and tho tyrant's minion undr General Guitmn and Cruz, who, with over twelve hundred men and four ocar j pieces oi artillery, in commanding position, occupied tho cnnital of Conhullia. The action lasted until tho 23J, at half past 1! o'clock, A. M., when the depot's general, with one piece of artillery, 200 infantry, and tome 250 of the "dragoons of the puarJs and "guides of Ills serene HighnMv" with 00,000 in specie, fled towards San Luis I'otosi, to report to their master in person tho result of tho action. They ocLnowiedo the loss of twothird of their entire force in killed, wounded, prisoners, and dipered, tof;ether with three pieces of artillery, a are quantity of munition", of witr, m ill arms, amall stores, Lc, etc.Tho flying remnant of tho forces weic hotly pursued by the mounted riflemen, who succeeded in capturing the money and dispersing them; but tho two gallant lenders made good their escape. The best of it is, that, tho day before tho action, the humane Haitian, ai ordered by SanU Anna, had selected in S.tltillo the spot whero he wasgointo bavo Vidaurri and his officers shot. The federalists lost 33 men in - killed and wounded. In Gen. Ouitian'a ranks were many of the officers who had been captured at Monterey, and who thus broke their parolo Woll is fst fortifying himself in Matamoras, and on the 3d commenced burning tho suburb of tho city, de troy in fences, cornfields, houses and hats, lie his ruined many families by thus destroying all they possessed on earth. You may imagine this braadocia's station, notwithstanding his late boasting, when you are told that the hay consumed by his cavalry ii taken over from this place, as be dare not venture with his horses a mil j out of the city. On the 4th inst., Gov. Vidaurri nr. rived at Cadereyta, somo thirty miles this side of Monterey, on his way to join Gam, his second In command, who, with COO mounted men, occupies the line of the Uio Grande. Garza's scouts are in the vicinity of Matamoras, and when, they finally march down to invest that place, their force will not number less than 3,000 men and eleven pieces of artillery. J. K. Duncan,-lato Lieutenant, Third Artillery, U. S. A., is the second in command n( their artillery, and as he stand vfcry high in his profession, he will give a jrood account of himself. , V oil received a reinforcement of 250 men from Tampico, which augments his effective force in Matamoros to 1,700 or 1,800 men and twelve pieces of - artillery. His opponents flushed with victory, advance, confident of success; but I regret to bt lieve, that owing to the proximity cf Fort B.own, he will, along w'uh his mis tress, save himself, thus cheating the hangman of what is legitimately his own. . The Monterey clergy were the agents who gave all the information of what transpired in tho federal camp to L-rua and üuitian, and as Vidaurri intercepted their correspondence, he has arrested their high priest and some of his subordinates, who will, in order to keen their heals on their shoulders, have to furnish the revolu tionists with the snug sum cfSlOO.UOO This is sensible. Since yesterday large numbers of families from our sister cities, Lave been and are now com'ng over to seek refuge and safety on this side of the river. Our goodly city is crowded with them. The general election on the 6th went off very quietly, and for Congress, Bell will get the vote in this valley. For Governor, it will divide between Pease and Dickinson. Revolutionary stock is at a premium, and looking up. RIO BRAVO. . Vrom Uie Sow Orleaoa Delta-Head-quarters at Buena Vistn, July 23d. 18G5, three-quarters past two o'clock P.M. The escape gallows General AVolI, is still fortifying himself ia Matamoras after having promised its inhabitants that he woold go out and tight the enemy if he ventured to approach the place. On the 3rd he commenced burning the suburbs, huts, houses, and cornfields in the vicinity of Matamoras, and the chaparal, or underwood and the trees within three miles of the place are bein,- destroyed. hven the brick kilns have been razed, and he ha wantonly reduced to beg gary, many poor familifs, whose only jortune was their humble cottage and little cornfielus, with which they supt ported their hapless and helpless little ones: From the Brownsville Fla- of the 4th inst., we extract the following: The 'greatest enthusiasm is evident among the liberators, and everything promises success. Gnrza Capistran and Sayas are still in the vicinity of Matamoras with a force variously estimated at from 6 to 1200 men. It is not probable, however, that Matamoras will be attacked before the expiration of some weeks yet, as we are informed by eood authority the en tire insurgent army will unite for that purpose, and it will necessarily con sumo some weeks in accomplishing that end. In the meantime, Gen. Woll, we arc told, is making preparation for their reception. He has commenced clear
away tho woods und Rh untie round
th city, and otherwise preparing to recvivwhis enemies. - iCiT T. A. Goodwin and Dr. Oifford held a dicusion at Laurel on last Saturday on tho meriti t f the liquor law. We were informed by a peron who was present that the Doctor did sustain himself as well as lie did in (his place a few weeks since, lie must have made an 'orful weak effort. Andtrtonville Xetes.
