Greeley Coning to his Senses. Onr readers will remember that for a year past the Tribune has been one of the principal defenders of the for eigners in this country. In a recent paper he thus discourse th, . Is it not sickening, then) to hear this beastly bawling about the violation of their "rights," uttered by men who knew not the value of rights nd Beyer enjoyed 'any until they landed on American soil ? Is it not disgusting to hear men cavil at law legally and democratically enacted, and threaten to resist its lawful administration, who in Franee or Germany some hört time since bowed with respectful humility before each petty ofi cer of police and submitted daily in quiet and meekness to each Commissarie or Captain of the squad 7 At the whim oi any. of these underlings dressed in a little brief authority they could be arrested and imprisoned. To luch they opened not only their pantries and cellars, but their private drawers and writing-desks, without a murmur of opposition, Their most intimate correspondence could be seized, read and inquired into their private and family affairs becouing thus literally investigated and divulged. The agent who has the power to do all this, acts not by virtue of a law cnacted by and in the name of the people, but through an order issued by some superior officer. Such is the real con dition of personal rights on the Con tinent ; v? nile the Irish are perpetually assuring us, through the press and speeches, that the only fight extended to them in their own country is the risght to starve. Such is a true picture of what both submitted to in their respective fatherlands but few comparatively being political refugees. Yet, forsooth, nere their wrath is aroused, and their fury turned against the decision of a conscientious and enlightened majority, trying to raise them to the dignity of manhood, and to enable them to secure more easily and with greater speed an honorable and independent position by disabling them from squandering their hard-won earnings in grog-shops, lager-beer saloons, and the brawls of which these are so piolific. . Cassini H. Clay, Triumphant. . - The people of Rockcastle county, at a meeting held on the 12th of July, i csolved, as our readers are already aware, "that Cassius M. Clay, John O. Fee, and other Abolition speakers, must delist from speaking in that county." C. M. Clay s answer to the committee who were appointed to gtve him notice of that resolution, was that he and Mr. Fee should both speak at Scaffold Cave, in that county, on Saturdry last. They kept that appointment snd were heard. There was some difficulty about getting the church, as there was an appointment for sermon by the Baptist clergyman in the morning. It was, however, surrendered to Mr. Clay at the close of the service, and at 12 o'clock John G. Fee commenced speaking lie concluded his remarks with
out interruption, and was followed by Mr. City. Both speakers were listen ed U attnetively and no violence was offered or talked of .;.'. IPI. VI.... füll tl..o.' Ii,,.. The only conclusion we can come to is, that they meant at me time tne tnreais were maae to keep them, but have yielded to the superior physical and moral courage of Mr, Clay. , that part of the State, incitement causes debate, and debate elicits tho't: and all help on the cause of truth.
