Highly Important Intelligence. Sanguinary Fighting brfore. Sevastopol. EIGHT THOUSAND MEN KILLED OK WOUNDED. Niwr York, Juno', 13. Th steamer Atlantio with mJ rices from London nJ Lirerpool to tho Sod inst., arrircd at this port this morn GENERAL INTELLIGENCE. The new from tho ict of wor by this itetmerU highly importunt. Tho allies had captured Kertzcb on tho sea of Aiof, and alo havo taken tho Russian camp at Tchcrnaya, besides having obtained various succcscs bo for Sevastopol. Tho news generally is of mor importance than any received sine tho battle of Alma. Tho Allies havo been successful in threo engagements. Tho conflicts on the nights of the 22 J and 2üJ; between tho Trench and Russians, briefly reported by the last steamer, turns out to havo been of the cost sanguinary description. Tho conflict lasted the whole of each night, and the loss in killed and wounded, on both sMes'n set down at 8,000 men. The French took and maintained an important position ef tho defense, as was heforo stated, and retained it. The allies made a rapid advance, and seised and retained the Jtussian lines on the Tehernaya without much loss and tho Russians having retreated to tho hills upon tho approach of tho allied forces. Tho socret expedition of the allies went to tho Sea of Azof, and obtained easy possession of Kertxch. and consequently the full command of the Sea of Asof, in which are now fourteen of tho allied steamers. The Russians retreated on tho approach of the allies, having firstblown up the forts, burned four steamers, SO transports, and half a million sacks of breadstuff. France and England have declined to renew the Conference at Vienna. The latest advices say the French havo established. new camp at Teher nava. It is said that Belgium will furnish a contingent of 20,01)0 men. Strong hopes of peaco prevailed in ' England. The details of tho engagement on the night of tho 23d and 3d of May, between the French and Russians are frightful in the extreme. Nearly tho whole Russian garrison was engaged, and the conflict was chiefly a "hand to hand," fight, the bayonet being the chief arms used, and nearly twothirds of them were killed with the bayonet. General Pelissier says the Russian loss was enormous, and of his own troops quite heaty, though nothing in proportion to the Russians. OortachikofTa account of the affair is U follows; ' -'Yesterday evening 17 battalions of the enmy, with reserves, attacked the front of our counter-approach, which had been commenced the day before in front of the bastions fire and six. Mtihataii iiiitinim im ed daring the whole night, and our losss in killed and wounded is nearly 2,500." Geo. Pelisseir telegraphs, under date of May 25th, "To-day we have occupied the enemy's line on tho Tehernaya. The enemy not being in force, offered but little resistance, and retreated rapidly into the hills. We hare established ourselves in the work, taken on the night of the 23d. An armistice was agreed upon, to bury the dead, which enabled us to form an estimate of the enemy's loss, which I am satisfied cannot bo less than 6000, including the wounded. The enemy has not made any demonstration against tho lines ' on Tehernaya. The works on the fortifications at Kameisch are progressing. Tho sanitary condition' of the army continue good: It was rumoured at Paris on Friday that Pelissier had attacked and routed Liprandi's force, and that Gen. Canrobert had been wounded, and another General killed, but this report was doubted. Lord Raglan telegraphs as follows: Camp 13 croRK Sevastopol, May 27. We are masters of the sea of Aiof, without the casuality. The troops landed at Kertzch on the 24th, her Majesty's birth-day, and the enemy fled, blowing up the fortifications on both sides of the straits, and destroy ing their steamers. Some vessels, and about fifty guns hare fallen into our hands. In a dispatch of the following day, he thus gives an account of the landing at Kertzch in a more detailed man ner. "Sir Georcre Brown reached Enika leb straits, having the previous day destroyed the foundry near Kertzch, where shot and shell and Minnie Balls were manufactured. Letters , from Biown and Admiral Lyons say the enemy had destroyed four steamers and a large quantity of grain, lne sloops of the Allies sue ceeded in blowing up the magazine and destroying about 100 merchant vessels. Only one Russian steamship remained on the Azof The occupation of Galetz and attack upon Ismail and Seni, were confidently spoken or. The garrison of Sevastopol and most of its supplies from Kertzch the capture of the place must therefore pe looked upon as oi very great impoi tance. Fifty cases of cholera and twenty aeams are reported in tbe British camp before Sevastopol. There was, also, some cases among the French. The Sardinian contingent had land ed in excellent health, and with ample supplies of provision and munitions of war. The warm weather in the Crimea had been succeeded by rain. The Russians were working vigor ously on the north side of the harbor, erecting earthworks, dec. Large convoys had entered Sevasto pol from the North. The deserters from the Russian garrison report that tho garrison is very strong in numbers, but the recent hot weather had produced much sick ness. From the Baltic we have reports from Dantzio to the 23d ult. The first division of the Russian crun boats, sta tioned at Sweaborg, had moved to the

opposite eoaat, in tho vicinity of Riga. The French squadron sailed from Keil on the 23d ult., to join tho English which, when last reported was beyond Nargen. The Russian Minister of Foreign

Affairs had issued a circular rcspectH ing the blockade of the r inland ports, in which he says England has departed from the prtnciplo that tho flag covers tie cargo. It was expected towards the close of the week, in Englnnd, that the conference at Vienna wouldjnot bo resumed, as the new Austrian propositions were promptly rejected by France and England. Negotiations between Austria and Prussia wcro ns nctivo as ever. The Viceroy of Egypt had given order for a construction of a railway across the Isthmus of Sues. Mf nchikoff had returned to St. Petersburgh, and was well received by the Emperor. '1 hero wcro 74C Russian prisoners in the hands of the Allies, while the Russians have but 100 privates und ten officers belonging to tho British army. Advices from China, say tho Imper ial troops had been withdrawn from tho neighborhood of Shanghno toward Nankin, and matters had assumed an unfaYoiablo change. The insurgents wcro making such advances that foars were entertained that they might stop tho export trade of Shanghae. famine threatened tho country, and food riots wcro apprthended. The British Pacifio fleet was to rendezvous at Japan, and afterwards proceeded to the Russian possession nt the North. The U. States vessels, J. P. Kenne dy, was at Canton; tho Vnndalia at Whampon; and tho Powhnttan nt Singapore. ' Capt. Advns would proceed home by this mail, with the ratified Japan treaty. Dates from the Baltic- to the 2Glh, which are the very latest, sy that when the steamer Driven was sent into the Baltic ports to serve vessels with ofllcial'notice of the blockade; sho found an American vessel, the Samuel Applcton, of Boston, upon which, tho also served a notice, with warning to clear out within six days. A day or two after this, when on a cruise, she again fell in with tho Appleton. and an officer was sent on board to examine her papers, which were found in order. The ofllcer then demanded to see tho bill of lading, to which tho American captain objected, and began to male difficulties; but tho British officer insisted, and ij turned out that the Samuel Appleton had just landed at a Baltic port, 60,000 ritles, and 10,000 revolvers, besides about 00O bales of cotton, as an ostensible part of her cargo. Tho ship was then carefully overhauled, Lut nothing contraband of war was found. STATT. STOCK IlA.MtS.
