riculture. A correspondent of tho llichmond Knquircr, writing from Liverpool on tho war, says tho spirit of the Lnglishisunitcuoin lavor of tho war, and that men und money will bo voted for its con tinuance by Parliament, ami adds: Yet when drained of her men when ko many thousands now engaged in peaceful pursuits are away; and tho labor of tho country, thus manifestly lessened, who I pray, aro to furnish moat and bread for tho vast armies, and tho population that yet remains at home? Thcro s not a month less to food, and many less left to feed, and many less left to produco tho necessary food for all at homo or abroad. Russia will send nothing from thoBaltic, and the great wheat-growiug counhy on tho Danube, and that which is watered by tho many rivers entering tho Black Sea, is ravaged desolating war; nndall that tin? people of that vast and rich country has for years sent abroad and to England especially, will find for its diminished productions consumers at homo. Already aro theso considerations pressing on tho English wheat and flour market, and keep up tho prices ovon after a good crop, has been secured in a most admirable con dition. Wheat sells now at rather higher prices than it did ono year ago, and our country can nowJmt insufficiently supply cither Lng land or France. But let our pco plo mako less tobacco ard cotton tho next year and tho year alter. and. I tell you, your millions ol wealth will bo drawn hcaeo to u, f for theso new staplo articles, ar tides of wheat, corn and provisons .be fubstitutcd. Clear up your lands, and put tho utmost breadth of them in everything necessary for food of mnn, and everything that is produced will find nn numirublo market tho next yenr. True, our wheat crop is already iu tho ground, and its quantity cannot bo now increased; but our com crop may, and that is in articlo which will pay much bettor next year than cither tho tobacco or cotton crop. How to Sprout Oiage Orange Seed. Tho following plan lor snrout ing Osago Oraug) sued may bo of use, ns many urcunsucccsiui lor want of tho proper knowlcJgo. In tho first plac, having procur cd bright plump seed, ol last year's growth, if possible, put them in a tight vessel, ana pour on thcra boiling water, until they nro covered. Cover up and let them stand until milk-warm keeping th:m at this tempera tuio or wanner, until they begin to burst and sprout. Keep a wet 4 cloth on ton of tho vessel, topic vent tho sood from becoming dry. An occasional wetting with warm water will bo nccccfmry. A low days after tho sprouts begin to mako their appearance, , iho sce should bo planted out in beds previously prepared. If tho seed cood'and properly treated, they will sprout in about two weeks. ah It is better to stop at u high doorway, than to run against low one. Iloral Courage. The Roctvillo la Truo Ropubli can, gives, in n recent isuc. an excel lent uiastraiion 01 moral coura which we commend to the imitation u till who havo unfortunately becomu tho Urea of a depraved appetite 'An old and excellent friend of oui had been until within the lnt fou yeara, bound by the fetters of intem perance, until almost every true of his former self was lost. On one occasion ho was brough by some menns or other, to slop nnd reflect on his Situation. Ho asked himself the question, "Has aU this dissipation, loss of character, estrangement f fr:- ni.t, and loss of property, done toe any good?" The aaswer was, "No." That momentary pause in his down war J course saved hnn. Ho resolved to drink no more. He stuck to his rcsolv, nnd whs a man onco more. From !' c moment that be made this vt'w rolve, he determined, from that tum- forwHrJ to deposite in a littu box a . live cent piece for cverr drum that he had Won in the daily habit of taking. 'J hue man has now laid ftwnj tiv0 an; pieces, which amount to 8i7, o. A aura larce enough to buy several acres of good land, all of which, had it not been for the courageous resolution to "sin no wore,"Jwould have been guzzled down in that poison thai destroys the soul and body. So much for the courage that says "No!" lo the tempter, and the will that preserves in the course determined on. Bui tho narrative not only illustrates "moral cou rage," it also sugeats a remedy for "hard times," which may be of practical value to thousands. ZSTSaid a clerk to a Cabinet ministor, after boggling for a few days nt the first duty he was put upon, 'Sir I do not like it.' A new sort of labor was assigned to him; but he soon came back with the same story, adding, 'I do not think it is raj forte.' 'What would you like to do?' inquired the nceommoutin Secretry.
