For plain and unequivocal exjnnation of the former portion of thU atakment, I refer you to the card of the Faculty. In your respond to my first article you täte, that, all mo moral ana rcnpiciable younjj men of the Society dn;ipjiruvo the article in meun, and now ,itU all nlth wluni yon lave conversed would it not have been quite m well to havo made your lirxt ns.serlion less broad? Tho Collejjo could not be rcponniblo for the article, becauvj you were not at tho time of the exhibition connected with it." I thought my crime consisted not, in taking a part in the exhibition, but beiiv tho author of that low and unvntlcm inly, or, n the rtpertfl nte" styled it, f.-tlso and ilandcroui article. At the time that deed WA- committed 1 had tho honor to be a student of tho College. Hut who dchire them to be responsible for tho article? I have never it-Led tho .Faculty, nor the College, nor even tho Society toniume the reifonibility. 1 with it to, be understood that it all mti on my shoulder. Note 3. I am almost pcrsuruled to rail thi a bare-faced falsehood. Hut I still entertain too hih an opinion of your moral character to think that would knowingly, publish a positive lie. I will simply call it a grtut tillstale. It U sincerely hoped that before you make any more such assertions, you be fully assured that you are "authorized" to tell that which has at least some shadow of truth about it. In tha first place, there were but three members who left the Hall before ad journment. Your brother and two It v i were tho members. The res olutions adopted (one of which I quoted in my last) were not before tho Society for at least two hours- after their departure. A train, there was not one twrJ of ; debate on those resolutions to which have referred. When they were before the Society, one of your warmest friends urosc, an I stated "that he was in favor of tho resolutions, and hoped they Would be adopted. The question of their adoption was immediately put. "When the Mays were called for, no one responded und the President announced their unanimous adoption. 'ow with whom does the mistake lie you, or your informant? Now I have "tried again." With what success you may decide for your self. And 1 have done it too without iwailin ' myself of any of your liberall v ottered assistance. Had my hide of the oucstion been so weak, or had there been so little truth in its favor,! 4ts to need brilliant flashes of wit, and cuun'ng tricks of uonhisUy to bolster it up nnd thus make it passable I ini 'ht have called on you. .No matter int 'lit have calleu on you w hat becomes of my little boat I intend to continue to cling to the rudder Truth and so long as I can do this, I do not think your assistance will be needed. Parenthetically, I would like to add, that it seems to me, that by the time you have settled tho charges made by Messrs. Hull Se Berry and which appeared tho same time the first report of my "pop-gun" was heard, you will liave but little powder to spare. Do 4jive them a charge don't bring nil yoar powerful lattery to bear against a little boat manned by a pop-gun. Now I have written all that I expect to write ou this very important subject and leave it in your hands. C. C. MXKLEY. Vc have to say, in behalf of the young man who gave us the information alluded to, that he i well known, and universally respected in this community. He U neither ashamed nor afraid to tell whero he came from, nor why he eame; where he gets Ids mony, or how he gets it question that a certain young man we wot of does jiotliko to answer. President Locke' note last week certainly puts Mr. Binklcy in a very unenviable position, so far as the approbation of tho Faculty is concerned. Parenthetically" we would say that had Mr. Binkley's name been attached to his first article, it would havVbcen as harmless as his great prototype, M. R. Hull's. It was, by many, at- ' t;ibutcd to a respectable source, and our only object, as the reader will remember, in noticing the thing, was to ive Mr. Binkley the glory of produiting it. We have never tried to answer it never will. Slander from either Mr. Hull or Mr. Binkloy needs no answer in this community. Finally, we would .commend the young man to the skill and treatment of Mr. James Webb of Eloominggrovc. lie is powerful ou tho big-head in horses, and we presume he could treat the same disease in ases equally successfully. The following wo clip from the California Christian Advocate. Aibnry Xotes. Disiiof Simpsox. Some years ngo, while a sojourner in tho interior of Ohio, we attended one Sunday what is usually termed, in those parts, "A Mclhotlist Camp Meeting." It was a meeting held in the open air, in the forest the giant trunks and luxuriant foliage of the forest monarch formed a more tilting and gorgeous cathedral than any house made with hands. Truly has America's sweetest rural pout said, Tha g'uva won Uil's flrt tJiui'la, mm lcuruo4 Tu Hit srrltor Uaw Iii srcltltrsr.' There was it large throng assembled many went to worship, and many, too mauv perhaps, like ourselves, were drawn tfiiiher by motives of cuiio.ity alone. There were many of the magnates of the church, that go into the hi ghways ana hcuircs, in Us misMou for good, and some of the most gifted pulpit orators of tho uay liaU heU I ! forth. In the course of the sen ices, nn awkward nn ungainly-looking young man rose to addles the multitude-with u raw boned figure a white head but a speaking eye, and the lines of decision about his mouth. Willi an awkward gesture, nnd hesitating" und somewhat confused utterance, he failed at first to impress his audience; but as he proceeded in his discourse us he warmed with his subject what was at first awkward became, nervous, impassioned, and thrilling and what was, at the beginning, hesitating and confused, was changed for a clear, concise, fluent, and impressive style, As the full and sonorous tones of his voice nwakenedthe echoes of those mimt r11 WiuhIj " un Mi i-f iilwutn t O , ' , ly thrilling was produced upon hisuuuience. The "outsiders" gathered around to listen; and at the conclusion, there was a jreneral inquiry, "Who is "Who he?" Upon imiuiiin ', we learned that tho speaker was a self-educated young man a native of the interior of Ohio who had struggled along, unaided by naught save his own exertion, and fitted himself for the pulpit. That man was the san'e to whose eloquent discourse we listened yesterday, at th Second Methodist Church. That young man has, by that same self-reliance that same energy of character which is bound to rise attained the highest honors of a Church dignitary of Iiis denomination, and is now an honored Bishop. We learn that the building of tho State University, including the library, was burned on Sabbath morning. It I supposed to have been set on fire.Wo havo not heard the particulars.
