When should Grain be Cut. A most important question, just at this time, for the Northern fanner. Careful observation, and some little experience during twenty years' residence in a great v heat-srrovving country, has convinced the. writer that it ii fully ten per cent profit on the crop to the farmer, to cut his wheat before the rrain is til! v frm ii .... :. i. . vui it, lv) cummence cutting as eooft as the earliest part of the crop has nnssp.l fmt ti,o n,;ib .u.j ' J.. . For seed, the best Portion of th fipl.l ! should be set apart and 1p! t m i until fully ripe, and then carefully cut by hand, and very carefully handled, because the verv crania which shmil.l K saved for seed, are the ones most shattered. Give these bundles a "MCMiiuir, give me grain a thorough winnowing; screen out all but fie most plump kernels, and sow those for your next crop, and you will succeed iu improving both quality and product. I This question of ''when should grain i be cut,' has beeti agitated for many i dra, i)n m tins country and Europe. and no doubt many a reader will exclaim, what is the use of writino- anvtliinnmore about that don't every" body know all about it!" No, sir. You know perhaps, or what is tae same thing to you, you think you do aud won't learn any more, bet somebody else will. You forget, or else, in your sell-conceited tol ly, you don't think, that about ten per cent, of all the farmers who ever make any advances in the science of farming, are not to the manor born; do not possess a sort of intuitive knowledge how to do just "as father did," and never do or thihk of doing anything else. , There is at the present day a vast number of people in this country just beginning to learn farming. Such persons want e c-tistat succession of lessons even old ones repeated are fresh to them, : .tfaoKgit they may be stale to yets. ! Tfirs theory of cutting grain, before it ' is "'l1; is ,R0 ,!ew L , ' In the sd volume ot British Husband- . ,o(5 ,o- .. When tills is the case, the loss is considerable, both in the field and in the stack-yard; and the grain, according to on Timer, produces an interior j flour.'' : Ar. experienced Pennsylvania larmer of our acquaintance always cuts his oats while the straw is green. This he learned to do, contrary to all old practice of his father acid all his neigbbirrs, by accident. His hay crop was short one year, , and he determined to cut his oats green; I that is, live ci six days too sood, as he . thought, losiiiii the grain for the sake of! the straw.
