Uratuitou Information. The editor of the Cleveland Plaindealer, who is now Postmaster in that pretty city of the lakes, has doubtless been directing an eye to the pay. He givps the following as the result of his research: "Just before the close of the last session of Congress when the bill establishing certain post-routes, &c, was before the House, an amendment was adopted, which became a law, and which fixes the commission of Postmasters as follows: On a sum notexecedin; $100 50 per eent On a sum between $Hn and 9400 40 per cent On a sum between StiHI and 8-.4l0 3j per cent On a sum exceed ingS J,4W 15 per cent When the mail arrives regularly between 9 at night and 5 in the morninsr, 60 per cent, is allowed on the first 100. Those otficers whose compensation shall not exceed $500 a quarter are allowed one cent fur every "free" letter delivered out of their offices, and each Postmaster is allowed two mills for every delivery from his office to a subscriber of each newspaper not chargeable with postage."

California! Sierrft nnd Tnlare.

; These are names of the three States which a movement is on foot ill the California Legislature to construct out of the present limits of ihe Pacific State. A majority of the Legislature, it is said, will order a State Conveution, and upon that Convention will depend the mode, manner, and boundaries of division. The suggested boundaries will divide present territory quite handsomely. "Sierra the mountain division , has about 23,000, by the last census; "California" has 207,388; and "Tulare," the Southern State, including Los Angelos and San Diego, has 34,150 inhabitants, and about seven and a half millions of taxable property. This Southern State of Tulare, in tliedivIsiou.lt is contemplated by many of the occupants to make a slave State of and one of the objects of pressing the division is to establish slavery there. The State debt of California is about three millions of dollars; and thh debt, divided among the new States, would give California $2,333,333; Tulare $400,000; and Sierra We doubt not that the scheme can pass the Legislature and get to the people, but then it will encounter, in our opinion, an unsurmou 11 table difficulty.

Precaution. Having had the admonition of a few fires in the neighborhood within a short time it would seem unnecessary to remind our citizens, as we have done before, that we are destitute of every kind of fire apparatus, of engines, hose, hooks, ladders, and even of suitable buckets; and yet scarcely a word is said about procuring any thing of the kind. We

hope therefore to be excused lor again calling the attention of our town Trustees to this important subject. We are convinced that some cheap apparatus could be procured and such arrangements

and regulations made in regard to requiring people to be careful of their fires, ashes, stove pipes, and the like, as to

guard successfully against any serious loss by fire. If the trustees have not the time to investigate the subject let one or more persons be appointed for that purpose, to be paid for their services, and report a proper plan. A few hooks, ladders, and buckets, might save half the town.
