We have received the April Nos. of
the National Magazine, New York, and the Ladies Repository, Cincinnati. The former took a high stand in the literary world at its coirmensement, and Row has no superior. The latter is now rising. Dr. Clark, the editor, is winning golden opinions from thinking men and women. These Magazines are row an honor to the church which has control of them, and patterns of chaste moral literature for the world.
The editor of the Repository is changing
materially for the better, the character of the contributions to the Repository from abstract ideal nonsense, to the practical and real. The mind may be pleased with a beautiful play upon words, but the world at this period needs more reality. There is a dense fog of ignorance in the world, and these magazines should be pioneers in the great reformation. The article in the National giving the history of John Law and the Mississippi bubble is worth the price of the Majjazine for a year.
