Au. active little man The Catholic Test. 'From .loor to door yon might have seen him speed." Ever since Gen. Fierie became a prominent man by being nominated for the Presidency, his friends and Col. Lane among them, have labored almost unceasingly to pro?e that he exerted himself to get the religions test stricken out of the constitution of his native Stale. This labor was of course to secure Catholic votes. But we understand a different course is being slyly pursued in different parts of this county. For instance, it is said that a certain individual who resides in Fairfield, a would have been candidate, and now very active in Col. Lane's interests, makes it convenient to see certain protestants, whom he accosts in this wise: "Did vou know thnt r. nl - Fu rn n'har

such information, ever recognise or approve a contract, by which, according to his own showing, so large an amount of public money or property was thus throw n away. Dunning was then no candidate, and Wright could risk making a little capital by seeming to disapprove of the sale. But now that Dunning is running for Congress, Wright is compelled to bs silent, and he seeks to berog the whole matter by clamoring about whig agents of State, and legislative resolves. The question arises was the Gov. iu earnest when he reported the lands worth fifty cents to a dollar an acre, or had he become a party to Dunning and Green's contract, or been employed as a puffer from his high position as Gov. to enable the purchasers to effect a good sale? How was it? The Gov. and his friends would have people believe that the agents of state had gone into the market and purchased them lands on speculation. The Democrat says, "Voters should not forget that for this very 3l)0,U0U of whig mismanagement they are now taxed to pay interest" Yes, every well informed man knows that these lands were taken as all that could be got for a bad debt. The Gov., if we can believe him, was informed that they were worth over two hnndred thousand dol-
