concerning the miserable death of Rev. J. N. Maffit. A correspondent of the Boston Tost, of the 2Gth ult., says: "Mr. Maffit died of a disease of the heart, which he had been subject to for the last twenty years. He was surrounded by friends and relations, and met death with calmness and resignation. By the citizens of Mobile he was kindly received, and treated with respect aud attention, despite of the untiring efforts of many enemies to produce a seutiment egainsthim. Whatever may have bvn Mr. Maflit's faults, he was not destitute of virtue, and none but the most malicious and vindictive could thus luhumanly trample on the memory, of the dead, and add increased pangs to the feltigs of his children."
