Niw YoU) Jane 24th. Ths steamship Cfwcent City arrived tbto morning "Kith latest intelligence from California. The Crescent City arrived oat to Cha-rres at S days from New York. She brings $150,000 In dat in tbe hands of passengera. A destructive fire took place in San Frauclsco loss S5C0.0OO. The steamer Isthmus arrived at Panama from San Francisco on the 10th. She brought down 134 psssengersand $300,000 in dust. Dates from San Francisco are to the 15th of May. Tba reports from the mining districts north and south continue to be of the most favorable nature. The general state of health at the placers was also good.

The fire, alluded to above, occurred on the 4ih j Inst.. The alarm proceeded from the United j

States House, on Portsmouth Square, and by the time the people were ont of bed the flames had spread to the adjoining buildings on either

Tho question being on Mr. Clemen's motion designating one million as the pura to be paid Texas for the surrender of her claims to disputed Territory, it was pat and lost, yeas 8, nays 30 . The question then recurred on striking out the entire section relative to the bonndariea of Texas. Mr. King expressed his opinion that Texas was entitled to the whole country east of the Rio Grande, from its month to its source; that fact had been made good when Texas was annexed. Mr. Butler said he would vote for the amendment, his views having changed in relation to

the titles of Texas. He believed her title good to all the territory claimed by her.

The question was further debated by Rusk, Foote, Hale, and Berrien. Mr. Benton was against continuing measures
