Why have I been dealt with so, harshly? of what crime have I been1 guilty? Whose ox, or whose ass, I have I taken unjustly? I have been frowned upon without a cause." i In this state he remained for

months, and then made another effort. On a few hundred dollars he commenced business once more, and with hard labor and slow progress made his way along the road of success. She to whom he had . been engaged in marriage, was united to a more wealthy lover; and he sought a union with one whose financial circumstances corresponded . with his own. In wedding he wed-! ded happily. The partner of his

bosom was a true woman, and their

hearts were joined in the tenderest affection. Years came and went, and many precious children blessed their union. Prosperity crowned the merchant's efforts. He gathered in wealth, but prized it less for its possessions than its use. "What now?" said the one who

had previously referred to the dark j dispensation of Providence. "Is all for the best? or does your heart still doubt?"

"I see it clearer now, yet sometimes I doubt," said the merchant. "But for the loss of property," said the other, you would have married the daughter of Humphrey. "Yes." "And she would have been the mother of vour children." "Yes." ' 'Have you heard of her conduct?' V.i Wlvit h;ia cho rl.-ino?"

Theae Medicinea haesj now been beforvj the pbite for a period of FIFTEEN YEA3LS. aad daring that time have maintained a high character in almost every part of the globe for their exlraor diuary and immediate power of restorinr perfect health to persons autTerinp; under nearly every kind of diaeaee to which the human frame at liable. IN MANY THOUSANDS of certificated inatancee, they have even reocuei anffereva from the very verge of an untimely grave, after all the deceptive nostra out of the day had at. terly failed ; and to many thousands they have permanoatly aeenred that uniform enjoyment of health, without which life itself ia but a partial bleaaing. So great, indeed, haa their efficacy invariably aud infallibly proved, that it ha appeared acarcely leas than miraculous to those who were acquainted with the beautifully philosophical prin. ciplee upon which they are compounded, and npoa which they consequently act. It was to their manifest and sensible action in purifying the springs and channels of life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor, that they were indebted for their name. Uulike the host of pernicious quackeries which boast of vegetable ingredients, the LIFE MEDICINES are purely aud solely vegetable ; and eontain neither MeTCUiy, nor Antimony, nor Ana UIC, nor uy other mineral, in any form whatever. They are entirely composed of extracts from rare and powerful plants, the virtues of which, though long known to several Indian tribea, and recently to some eminent pharmaceutical chemists, are altogether unknown to the ignorant pretenders medical science ; and were never before administered in so happily efficacious a combination. The first operation is to loosen from the coat of the atoinach and bowels the various impurities and crudities constantly settling round them ; and te aemore the hardened faeces which collect in the convolutions of the small iutestiues. Other medicinea only partially cleanse these, and leave sue collscted masses behind to produce habitual Costiveneaa, with all ila train of evila, or sudden Diarrhosa with iu imminent dangers. This fact ia well known to all regular anatomists who e nomine tbe buman bowels after death ; and hence the prejudice of these well informed men against the quack medicines of the ape. The second effect of the

VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder ; and, by this means, the liver and lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, which takes its rod color from the agency of the liver and lunga, before it passra into the heart, being thus purified by them, and nourished by food coming from a clean stomach, courses freely through the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. The following are among the distressing variety of human diseases in which ths VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES are well known to be infallible: DYSPEPSIA, y thoroughly cleansing the first aud second stomachs, aud creating a flow of pare healthv bile, instead of the stale and acrid kind ; FLATULENCY, Lot of Avpttitt. Hurtbun, Headache, Reetleunttt, Ill-temper, Anrtty, Languor, aud Melancholy, which are the general symptoms of Dyspepsia, will vauish, as a natural consequence of its cure. CoCtiveneSS, by cleanaiug the whole length ef the intestines with a solvent process, and without violence : all violent purges leave the bowels costive within two days. Di&rrhcBa and Cholera, by removing t sharp acrid fluids by which these complaints are occasioned, aud by promoting the lubneauve secretion of the mucous membrane. FsVeni f all kinds, by restoring the blood to regular Circulation, through the process of perspsration in such cases, and the thorough solution at all intestinal obstruction in others. The Lira; MinictNKS have been known tn car RHEUMATISM permanently in three

weeks, aud GOUT iu half that time, by removing local inflammation from the muscles and ligaments of the jointa. Dropsies of all kinds, by freeing aud strengthening the kidneys and bladder : they operate moat delightfully on these important organs, aud hence have ever been found a certain remedy for the worst cases of GRAVEL. Also Wormi, by dislodging from tbe turnings of the bowels the slimy matter to wliich these creature adhere. Asthma ""d Ccnnmption, by relieving the air-vessels of tbe lungs from the mucous which even slight colds will occasion, and which, if not removed, becomes hardened, and produces Uicm dreadful diseases. Scurvy, Ulcers, and Inveterate Sores. j the perfect punty which these T.l KK MEDICINES e,ve the blood, and aUthe humors. . Scorbutic Eruptioni "d Bad Complexions, by their alterative effect upon the fluids that feed the akin, and the morbid state of which occasions all eruptive complaints, sallow, cloudy, and other disagreeable complexions. The use of these Pills for a very short time will effect an entire cure of SALT RHEUM, and a striking improvement in the clearness of tie akin. COMMON COLDS and INFLUENZA wHl always be cared by one dose, or by two even ia the worst cases. PJXES. As a remedy for this most diatrrosios; and obstinate malady, the VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES deserve a distinct aud einnuitUc recomnieudaliou. It is well known to hundreds in this city, that the former proprietor ef these valuable Medicines was himself afflicted with this complaint for upwards of THiamr-nvt vests; and that he tried in vain every rrmedy prescribed within the whole compass of the Materia Jdediem He however at length tried the Medicine which ia now offered to the public, and he was cured in very short time, after his recovery had been pronounced not only impiobable, but absolutely impossible, by any human means.
