expect to go to mining soon and expect to make
from two to three ouace. per day, that being very common here. I expect to return home in
about Id month.. I shall return bv water.
Those that have come by water complain of suffering tremendously, and those who come thro by Ijnd complain very much also. I know the overland route to be a very hard one, although there are a great many women and children on the road. I lament to think there will be a great uumber of women aad children lose their lives on the rouL
Tliere is a great cum'ner rf emigranl. on the
road; more I fearthau the grass and water will subsi.t. There are two drsetits that are dividaJ
only by oue spot of grass, aid one su'phur well. One is thirty mile, to the sink i f Mav. river:
thence from that forty-five miles to Carson river which will, be connected by the grass being eat up by the immense number of stork, and the water druuk up, making 75 milts without grata or water.
Persons willing to come through bv land should start by the first of May from St. Joseph They should not have more than 8 hundred lbs. to the wagon, ilbeiug light, with six good mule, to it. Six wagons with 20 men are enough to travel together with speed and safely. Yours. Ate. JAS. CROSL1N.
