Health of Brookville Since the 27 of July, the date of our last publication, there have been four fatal cases of cholera in our town, to-wit: two Smelslies, Howk, and Bole. There have been also four or five cases which have recovered. There has I been no ease since Tuesday morning, and our citizens have hope that it has nearly disappeared. There have been altogether 17 deaths in our since the 1st day of July, by cholera, all of whom were Germans. The flax and diarrhea still continue to afflict our citizens, but not as extensively or as malignantly as ten days since. The health generally in improving. We trust our day of affliction has passed over.
(Governor of Indiana. To parade, before the people, Mr. Matson's : high qualifications for this responsible office, at the present state of the canvass, would be useless. The question of his election will be decided before this number of our paper reaches many of its readers, save those who live in this portion of the State where he has been so long and so favorably known. It would be an insult to the intelligence of the citizens of White Water Valley, to mention to them, as a matter of information, that John A. Matson is a man who possesses personal and political virtues enough to render him worthy of any office under heaven. They know it as well as ourselves. We have no idea of doing any thing so silly; but we want to ask our democratic friends, What is there to withhold you from voting for Matson, when you cannot but know, that there is not a man in either patty, who would guard, with a care more jealous, the interests and integrity of the State? What is it that should prevent your giving him your support, when he has been measured in the Jeffersonian standard of honesty and capacity, and not in any particu-
lar been found wanting? What is the reason that you may not vote for him when he comes out fairly, openly and independently in favor of , one of the doctrines of the Apostle of your Faith the Ordinance of '87, the great and absorbing question at this time among all parties while his opponent, who professes to be a follower

You will notal low the ! EAR of any man to prevent your voting a your heart and conscience may dictate? What is it the business of
any particular leader how you vote? Are yon not free MEN? You are not children that some three or four political schoolmaster should not only tell you how you OUGHT to vote in their opinion, but how you MUST vote and are ready to rap you over the knuckles if you evince any disposition to do a you please, and not mind. If you were so you would be unworthy ; to be railed Americans. For our part we left no chalk lines of party. deter us from stepping over and voting for a good aud an upright man-- a man that we can trust. We value, our privileges too high to allow any man to put a ticket of his choice into our hauds and tell us that we SHALL deposit it
it in the ballot-box. Our sentiments are peaceful and our temper an even one but we should
be strongly tempted to phrenologically examine the head of any man with our cane who would
have the presumption to do this.
Then on Monday next see if you can not arrange it with yourselves to vote for John A. Matson. A highly intelligent and esteemed democrat of this state said in one of the public prints some weeks ago: "I do not belong to Mr. Matson's party; I cannot like the leading principles of bis party : but I am half inclined to vote for him because he is an HONEST man, a
MORAL man, a RELIGIOUS man, and a WARM FRIEND to the cause of "POPULAR EDUCATION '." It is hoped that he is entirely persuaded to do so by this lime, and that he will place in the ballot-box next .Monday, a ticket with this honest, moral, and religious man's name on it, for Governor. Go then and do likewise. Joseph A. Wright. Candidate for Governor addressed about 30 of his fellow-citizens, on Tuesday, at the courthouse. The speech, was exceedingly brief, but yet longer than we would have expected from his jaded, worn-out, and melancholy appearance. Dying men make surprising and astonishing efforts sometimes, however, in their struggles for dear life. The fight thus far between ha and Matson has been a perfect Yankee Sullivan and Tom Hyer affair. The bragging of friends, and the scientific motions executed by Hon. Jo. before the. "closing up" as an earnest of what he was going to do, effected nothing. The terrible blows that he received in the first few rounds, knocked his "science" into a cocked hat and himself into the middle of next week, with a pair of eyes as black as printer's ink, and a nose whose color partakes considerably of the delicate hue of a piece of fresh cut beef. He is as awfully a battered and cut up specimen of humanity, both in regard to his spirits and the physical man, as it ever has been our mournful task to look on. Indeed as the public are aware his injuries were such that bin seconds some days ago actually withdrew him from the ring! But the cheers of those on the ether side have bro't him in again. Cruelty, however, has not yet gone so far as to make them stand him up in front of his adversary to be unresistingly knocked down as was the case with his prototype the "Yankee." He is inside of the ropes and that's all. He looks-- no the state of his optics don't permit him to look-- but his appearance bears a remarkable resemblance to that of the Duke of Wellington's at 3 o'clock in the afternoon of the day of the battle of Waterloo. His exclamation is not, however, "would to God that Blucher or Night would come'." but would to God that the first Monday in August had arrived! But
