j ' ARRIVAL OF THE VA I.FDOSI.I. ONE WEEK LATER FROM EUROPE. St. Johns, N. B., July 20. The Caledonia arrived at Halifax at 7 o'clock last evening, and will reach Boston Saturday forenoon. She brings forty-five passengers, exclusice of eighteen of the forty survivors of the ill-fated bark Charles Albert. Suite of Trade. For all securities prices generally have been firm with an advancing tendency, both in Loudon and ou the Continent, and if, perhaps, we except colonial produce, everything give signs of firmness, activity, and increased conhdence. A slight improvement will be noticed in the value of Wheat, Flour and Cotton, while the statements from the manufacturing districts furnish strong assurance of an extension of operations. National securities have more than sustained their firmness. Throughout the week a considerable ainotiut of business has been don in Breadstuff's, with an advance in every article except Indian Corn, which declined Is to Is 6d per quarter, although Ireland alone took seventy-six and a half quarters. Wheat has advanced one to two pence per 70 lbs, and Flour 6d per brl. France and Koine. The French Legislative Assembly has been the scene of much turbulence aud recriminatiou during the past week. The despotic spirit which marks the proceeding of the Government is having the effect to unite various sections of the Assembly, not heretofore friendly, into a compact opposition to the Barret Ministry iu defence of Republicanism. You may think the dose large, but if opiates be used at all in cholera, the doses should be four fold. Small doses do more harm than good. 1 give nothing to work the medicine off before the next day or the day after. A purgative before the aqueous parts of the blood are restored is a dangerous thing.
