confirmed by the Senate. Several promotions were made in the Rifle Regiment. Washington, March 17. The Senate was in Executive session all day. The President sent in the following nominations: Mr. Norris, for the Port of Philadelphia W. H. Leroy, Navy Agent. James Collier, Collector of San Francisco. James Rhea, Collector at Brazos Santiago. There were no confirmations to-day. T Senate will adjourn on Wednesday or Thursday.

Every where I have been received with distinguished honors, treated with the utmost kindness, and listened, to with profound attention. My labors have been fatiguing and almost overwhelming. I have, however, been sustained, by consciousness that our cause was the cause of truth, righteousness, humanity, and religion. I have strong confidence- in the Order, & above all, an abiding faith In God. Within the past five'years, including my time, I have expended some twenty thousand dollars in the cause of temperance, besides sacrificing the ease and comfort of a happy home; yef'the cruise of oil
has not failed, r the barrel of meat diminished." God has protected me, and given me good health, and I feel prepared to enter npon fresh conflicts with the enemy. The Macedonian cry, "Come over and help ns," reaches me daily from every part of the land, and I am olten perplexed to know where to go. One thing I am determined to do, not to lay my armor down, but struggle on in the "cause of all mankind" while I have life and strength to fight; and my prayer to God is, that when any labors shall be ended, when I fall, that more Viliant, more successful soldier may take my place. There are some places where the enemy is so strongly entrenched that it seems a'most impossible to displace him; but on the whole, the prospects
